So despite the constant sniping and sarcasm by some, it wasn't really about saving money at all and more about logistics.

According to QF's page:

Due to government restrictions, a reduction in travel demand and health advice associated with the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and to ensure safety of our customers and our people, we've had to temporarily minimise our usual customer product and service offering.

No mention of logistics.

Pics attached, i do intend to follow up with qantas formally when im back from sydney, thr lady on the helpdesk just wanted to argue so I just hung up.

essentially, pic 1 was the voucher screen, pic 2 was when I was logged in to book a flight without the voucher. Clearly price gouging.Prior to this, I have never had a complaint flying qantas in years.
I'm glad you got that evidence - I've had this several times too, but never managed to get screen shots. It is outright gouging.

i’ll update the thread when I fly back to perth on Tuesday :)

I believe changes to catering are coming very, very soon. Will update as soon as possible.

Wifi will also come back soon, but IFE remains unavailable.

I was surprised that VA still had BYOD WiFI IFE on all if the B738 services I have been on lately, another Covid anomaly that prevents Qantas pax from having IFE but dosen't prevent VA pax from having IFE? I don't think public health regulations can explain that anomaly.....

But agree that the catering thing could be Health Regulation and/or safety OHS rules, and also a logistics thing of catering companies losing their ability to function due to loss of economy of scale. Possibly more than one cause.

To be fair, QF made it very clear the reason why - cost. The same as why Wifi was turned off (but is coming back as QF has been speaking to the supplier).

Whats the chances, i’ve got exactly the same seat on the return leg 1A(Unless they change it)

Should be easy to make the comparison.

FYI, I used another voucher(purchased during the last double status credit promo) for this one again and the price remained the same when booking which is good.
