The great hand luggage only challenge!!!

My 'fashion" is generally defined by my wife or kids. I can tell by their stares if what I am wearing is not an "approved" ensemble. I would be happy wearing almost anyting, but I would be disowned by my family if the choice was left in my hands.

Fashion awareness! What I wear is fashion. I won't jump on the bandwagon, craze, based on what some moron thinks is fashion(able) today. Just one example is people spending hundreds of dollars on jeans that are ripped, torn or faded.

I don't think I have ever worn 'chinos'. I wear pleated trousers, business or smart casual long sleeved shirts and black leather shoes and occassionally wear a jacket. I am in my early 40's.

What about the shoulder holster and leather jacket?

That is simply not true, but since this thread has already wandered significantly OT, I won't elaborate, other than to say that some people take notice of things like the quality of fabric and workmanship when purchasing garments, and some don't.
I really think a few of the newer contributors here need to look at The Totally Off Topic Thread for definitions of what is really 'On Topic' (OT) or 'Off Topic' (OT)

Anyone reading that complete thread must finish up a blithering idiot. I warn everyone, don't go there. You'll read one page of posts, get hooked, and then find there's more than a hundred to go. Most brains will not cope. Let's get back on the topic before major damage is done!!!

Perhaps Lindsay will soon try undertaking the Great Hand Luggage Only Challenge following his experience on arrival into BNE last night.

PS. See, I can bring a thread back on topic

Well mrssimongr is very impressed with hand luggage only for short trips - stunned when we waltzed through arrivals and straight into the waiting car - just wish we could work out a practical way to do it on the trip next year...

Buy wrinkle free shirts.I get van Heusen in the USA as they can often be had for $US10 at the outlets.Wash in basin.Hang up overnight in bathroom when light is left on and usually fine to wear again in morning. No ironing required.

Van Heusen is my favourite work shirt. I pretty much only buy the wrinkle free ones, and yep they look non-wrinkled if soaked, then allowed to drip dry.

The only real issue I have with them is that they're a polyester/cotton blend, which means they're not as good as normal cotton in the hot Qld summer months. Oh well :)

I never found them that cheap in the US, even though I have visited the Van Heusen outlet stores.

This week I did a regular MEL-SYD trip and my checked bag (QF 428) simply did not arrive on carosel 3.
I visited Baggage Services and started the trace.
The bag was sent on the mid morning PER flight and finally made it to my SYD hotel just after midnight after being put on QF 566 back to SYD.
I have just purchased a new ANTLER Mobile office cabin bag to end the long wait (& missorts) for checked bags. Now the challenge comes in using this for trips longer than 2 days;)

Way to go - you'll probably find ways to make it work. eg one pair of shoes that you wear on the plane, washing socks and underwear at night, etc - we've been through this early in the thread, so I won't repeat it. One event of lost luggage is all it takes to convert many.

I think I'm going to start the Challenge. After starting from MEL airport at 3pm on Wednesday last week to fly home (via SYD), getting my bags at 10pm wasn't my desired outcome.

My hour long wait last week for the baggage handlers to brave the elements (after finishing loading the outbound jets so they could make curfew)... :(

Good stuff Lindsay, you'll never look back.

You will be able to give the herd a knowing smirk as you bypass the baggage carousel ;)

well - after making the descision to go carry-on only for my current trip to SZX and TPE (2 weeks all up), I find out today (my first day in SZX) that I may need to spend another three weeks in TPE - This is certainly something I hadn't counted on. I could be very sick of my clothes by the end of four weeks in TPE!

I expect you can buy some low cost throw away clothes there, or under the circumstances, buy a cheap small bag and bring them back.

Dot,

In Tpe, go to Tien Mou during the weekends and there are plenty of shops there that sell surplus clothing stocks.......sort of a street of mini factory outlets Very resonably priced compared to the Dept stores which are ridiculously priced.

Especially a good idea when with Qantas Jets in WHY Domestically, you can have 2 x 7 Kg Bags. - Luxury ... ;)

One downside to hand luggage only is that your hand luggage can get quite full and things could fall out like your new Tag Heuer sunglasses on a flight from DRW-ADl-SYD :(

I'd never heard of Tag Heuer so I googled it. Couldn't find prices, but I suspect you pay something like $100+ for sunglasses. I just shove my $20 pair in a shoe in my hand luggage. Just for interest, what do your glasses do that mine won't do?
