Yada Yada, not ready to switch until I get my AA Plat, however I wish to exercice my first right of refusal to that AA tail as my new avatar.

Yes, it would. You'd get AA Platinum from a return trip (as distance is 3,910 and J will get you 1.5 EQP's; so return would give you 11,730 EQP's. You'd get a bonus 3,910 miles on your SIN/SYD leg - as the sector on which you achieve Platinum).

You'd almost re-qualify Platinum with 4 returns in J...

That avatar is all yours!

Thanks for the response. BTW I've posted a message in the AA Plat Challenge thread (having just read it at this late hour) because I'm still a bit confused about the perceived benefit in switching.

Depends on what benefits you want to use though? Flying mainly SIN-SYD means no benefit from the AA upgrades. Also, without doing the sums, I think you'd have a higher status on QF than on AA (plus the lounge access within US when flying AA). So it then comes down to does the better value mileage outweigh this? I am not sure it does in this case.

Thanks Kiwi Flyer. Thanks for your reply in the other thread too.

In thinking through what you've said, for me right now the better value mileage on AA is probably not as important as is status on QF. I've only just recently used my QF points for a ticket to take my daughter to Singapore so aside from this rare event I mostly want status to help get better seating and preferences on domestic flights.

Having AA Platinun status will enable you to get preferred seating preferences plus access to get seats assigned on international flights after the regular allocation is gone. I don't see AA PLT being that much of a drawback in that respect.

Dave

Most of the mileage will come from CC points that I'll transfer into AA.

Can you credit an Amex OZ based card to AA? And if so what's the conversion rate?

...5.3.2 Hilton Honors: Couldn't get into my HHonors account to see what the transfer rate is, but know it isn't good - maybe I'll just burn these on personal stays. Will be changing my earning to Hilton Points & Fixed Miles (couble dipping), as most of my stays are 1-3 nights and rarely spend for than USD$500. ...
Came across this today; and no, it's not good @ 10K Hhonors to 1.5 K AAdvantage.

Still, it's a 50% better than HH to QF at 10K:1K.

The great points transfer update

A nice little bonus towards my LTG from Hilton & AA:

Code:
Date Transaction Description* Mileage Bonus Total
05/02/06 HILTON HHONORS DOUBLE MILES 0 500 500
05/02/06 HILTON HOTELS-ADELAIDE HILTON 500 0 500
TOTAL MILES POSTED 500 500 1,000
ENDING BALANCE 38,965

Hmm, only 999 more Hilton nights to get AA LTG. But yes, every little bit helps.

The great points transfer to AAdvantage: update

Okay, Dave Noble and I have plotted the best way for me to finish my AA Plat Challenge by 15 July (cutting it fine, aren't I).

I have two trips next week, one to SYD and the other to MEL. As I'm sitting on 6,853 EQP's (need 10K to complete Plat Challenge) and mileage earning for these flights are minimum 500 EQP's, I needed a little tweaking on the fllights - so it's BNE/SYD/BNE and BNE/SYD/MEL/SYD/BNE. I also needed to find one sector as a Business Class sector to top off the EQP earning to more than 10K. It also had to fit into my schedule (departure and arrival times) and cost (although I'll be salary sacrificing some of the costs that are above my expense account limits). Amounts below from AA web site have been converted to AUD for easy comparison.

10/07 QF 551 BNE/SYD in S class
11/07 QF 552 SYD/BNE in S class
12/07 QF 549 BNE/SYD in L class
12/07 QF 489 SYD/MEL in S class
14/07 QF 456 MEL/SYD in W class
14/07 QF 548 SYD/BNE in D class

Dave Noble was able to confirm along the way (as I chose flights) whether there was U seat availability using ExpertFlyer. Time to spend my QFF points as I have enough to burn. So after making the booking on the AA website, I rang QF Platinum Desk and relieved myself of 24,000 points (3 x 8K) for the initial BNE/SYD/BNE sectors (they were showing U3 and U9 respectively) as well as SYD/MEL (showed U8). Lovely QF CSA has only debited my account for 2 of them so far (wonder whether the third will show up  ).

All bookings only show my AA FF number, but upgrade points burned through my QFF account. The best of both worlds. Now I don't need to worry about poor seat asssignment on most of my flights (is there a bad seat in J  :?: )

Will post the results...

Nicely completes the challenge with 54 qpoints over the 10k . Nothing like cutting it fine though :)

Dave

Congrats Lindsay Wilson.

I'm sure if anyone could have gotten the closest while completing it is you. My NZ requal was just completed (at least will be when the darn points post) exactly on the mark.

I did spend a while working the numbers n costings to try and get a set of bookings that would complete his remaining requirements in the best manner.

Looks like the first BNE/SYD flight on July 10 hasn't posted (because it was an ODU to J?) and still waiting on yesterday's flights. I'll need to send BP and the AA reloc to them to get it manually entered.

Just make sure the "helpful" QF agent in the lounge processing the ODU didn't "do you a favour" and add you high status QF FF number instead of that nothing-status AA number you had in the booking. I had a CX check-in agent "assist" me in that manner, which I had reversed at the lounge.

Congrats on FINALLY seeing the LIGHT

Ive been crediting all my familys flights to AA for years

what with a 160K syd=-LHR F against QFF 378k
