Thanks to all the well wishers...but it hasn't happened yet. Seems that the original BNE/SYD flight still needs to be pushed through:

Lindsay,

Did you ever get that original BNE/SYD flight sorted with AA?

Complete the challenge even?

serfty, have got the e-ticket and BP's on my office desk but haven't scanned & emailed to AA yet. Possibly tomorrow...

You might try the AA website.
I managed to collect AA miles on QF "missing" flights
with the Eticket number through the web site.

Took a separate try for both Mrs and I to post though.
Same itineraries different flights were missed.

Happy wandering.

As a new user, firsly let me say thanks to all you regular "posters" for a whole lot of valuable information. I was wondering with the transfer of CC points to AA what sort of card issued in Australia has that ability. I only hold 1 card CBA Gold M/Card however I am capped at 100k points per year and I would usually spend around $250k. Any Ideas???

American Express rewards can be transferred across to AA via Starwood Preferred Guest. If you have an AMEX that earns 1.5 points per $, then you will end up with 150,000 AA points

Dave

The great points transfer has slowed to a crawl (thanks to changes at work), with minimal flights from August to 31 December. However, Amex is now sitting on 100K, so will be looking to transfer to SPG, for the flush through to AA, when most appropriate (they certainly won't be going to QF).

Alas, it's back to AA Gold for 2007 (well, from 28 February anyway). Now to start the tallying rolling along for this year.

I had almost forgotten about this thread. Well, it back to start it with a vengance.

Firstly, an update. I was posting the majority of my flights in 2007 to QF to achieve Lifetime Silver. Now that I am there and I have Lifetime QC, it seems crazy with the devaluation of QFF to now keep posting my flights there as Lifetime Gold is so far away. True, AA Lifetime Gold seems further, but the benefits along the way should be enough.

I should be able to keep AA Gold from BIS flying easily, perhaps Platinum if my travel picks up a bit. The joy of flying at least K class fares for the majority of my flighTs domestically but the sadness that my likely furthest International flights in the foreseeable future is NAN (will also have some AKL ones, hopefully in LA J)

Thinking of using my 100K balance in my QFF account to score ODU's will also help my crediting to AA, as they have always seemed to credit as J :). Will have my ANZ QF Visa auto crediting some mileage into my QF account, so it will keep it ticking along (until when??)

Current AAccount summary:

Summary Date: September 2008
Program to Date Miles: 53,548
YTD Elite Qualifying Points: 0
YTD Elite Qualifying Miles: 0
YTD Elite Qualifying Segments: 0
Miles subject to Expiration: ‡23,548

Now with the Amex thread reminding me that I should be transferring my 270K Amex points (existing points, not including any promo bonuses which I have left i the account), I did that in the past 2 weeks - I'm so over holding them in Amex. 2 separate transactions done from Amex to SPG:

24/09/2008 Starwood Point Transfer -100,000
26/09/2008 Starwood Point Transfer -170,000

Then I have been transferring from SPG to AA, the first tranche on 24 September:

You have successfully transferred your Starpoints® to American Airlines.
We suggest that you print this e-mail for your records.
Starpoints Transferred To Account Number xx_xx_

Current Starpoints: 31309
Number of Starpoints transferred: 25000
New Starpoint balance: 11309
Bonus Starpoints: 5000
Total Frequent Flyer miles received: 25000

then subsequent ones on 28th:

Current Starpoints: 173309
Number of Starpoints transferred: 75000
New Starpoint balance: 113309
Bonus Starpoints: 15000
Total Frequent Flyer miles received: 75000

and the final one on 30th September (cutting it fine, I know, but 30th was Australian time):

Current Starpoints: 113309
Number of Starpoints transferred: 90000
New Starpoint balance: 38309
Bonus Starpoints: 15000
Total Frequent Flyer miles received: 90000

with the first transfer posting the next day (US time) into my AAccount:

View My Miles
Starting Balance: 23,548
09/24/08 STARWOOD PREFERRED GUEST: 25,000
Total Miles Posted: 25,000

so now my account looks like:

Summary Date: Current
Program to Date Miles: 78,548
YTD Elite Qualifying Points: 0
YTD Elite Qualifying Miles: 0
YTD Elite Qualifying Segments: 0
Miles with Expiration Deferred Through Mar. 24, 2010: 48,548

Now I'm waiting on the next 165K miles to post which will certainly help my balance quite nicely. They will take me fup to 24.35% of LTG

All Amex points will now go to AA (via SPG) at the reduced rate 1000:330, however I still see them as better value than QFF miles.

Given all the changes to QFF in recent times, it is not looking as good as it once did. I have been an AAdvantage member for about 20 years now but the account only stayed alive as I had miles from the original program which have no expiration date. Recently I transferred a heap of my Delta Skymiles across via points dot com. You have to pay and nominate an exchange rate, but I figured it was better than losing the Delta points altogether. I still have more Delta points which I am debating about transferring, though the expiration date has now been extended to 2010 on those. I have also managed to acquire an additional 4500 Delta miles by magic. Seems like they rewarded me for transferring miles out?? How does that work I wonder??

But I digress. How easy is it to use AA points if I start directing any QF travel to AAdvantage? Do I have to phone the US to book a QF flight? Email? How does it work?

I could also direct some of my Amex points that way as well but I am seriously considering moving them to Krisflyer now and using SIA in future.

I don't fly much, so all this could be quite academic but I do accumulate points via my credit cards etc so am keen to maximise my travel opportunities if that makes sense!

Have done well out of FF programs over the years so cannot really complain!

Annoyingly I moved 2x20+5K from SPG to AADvantage on 23 Sep but only one lot has appeared. Time to email SPG I think...

Not meaning to drift OT but I heard it was difficult to transfer points between different AA accounts? I have recently transferred about 240k points from AMEX to SPG & want to split them between my AA account, my wifes and my daughters. How should I go about this.... will SPG accept me crediting to three different AA accounts?

I don't travel as much as Lindsay these days but I also am considering dumping QF altogether and crediting all flights to AA.

Will follow this with interest. This thread started me off on my quest for status with AA.Worked well.I did not have to worry being a life member of the QP so life silver etc with QF held little advantage for me.Have now gone past 600,000 miles and should be over 700,000 by years end so well on the way to LTG with AA.
Thanks again for the inspiration.

It is v easy to book the flights. You can phone AA in Australia, but I tend to call the US desk and get the flights held ( they will hold them for 5 days before requiring payment ) and when ready to ticket phone Australia to get it issued.

simongr, can I give you some hope. As you read in my post on the previous thread, I was thinking that after the first lot of 25K points transferred on same day I did the SPG transaction, I thought the next two transactions would transfer using the same time frame (deja vu Amex thread, heh ;)). Well I just checked my AAccount for the first time since 4th October and voila:

Seem that they had posted but not showing for a couple of days. Weird

I'll allow you to drift OT (like aussiejohn) but any further questions can be addressed in a new thread and I can transfer the posts across. My understanding is that you can only transfer them to your account (as you have to nominate your AAccount number when doing your SPG account transfer, so only your AAccount can be the recipient account). Of course, you can use your points for award travel to be taken by your wife and daughters. Don't think there is a "family" option like other FF accounts use.

I'm not doing much these days...enough to keep QF Gold, but will probably only have enough for AA Gold (perhaps Plat) by BIS flying. The current benefits of AA far outweigh the (perceived) additional level of complexity in booking. I either ring AA Australia, or AA UK or AA USA, or book online. Depends on my requirements.

Wow, I inspired somebody...gotta chalk that one down in my life goals . Great to see it working so well for you drron. You'll make it before me (LTG), let me know what it's like. I have attached everything I can to my AAccount (hotels double dipping, car hire etc). Now to keep up the crediting.

You can gift points and transfer points but there are associated fees.

The only reason I could think of for transferring to multiple accounts would be if you were planning to get all three of you to lifetime Platinum status on AA which would require 6million AA points or 20,000,000 Amex points. If you are pushing that level of cash through an Amex card in a shortish space of time then I think you would flying J and living the hoigh life to get status ;)

Guys, without wanting to turn it into a mutual backslapping effort I can assure you that the info supplied by the likes of you, Dave, Serfty, tinkebelle etc here and on FT is the reason I walked away from QFF 4 years ago and over to AA. Have never looked back and now at 998,270 AA miles. Now trying my darndest to hold off for another 2 months before crediting any more points so that my EVIP's are good for an extra year.

My travel has slowed a little these days too but probably 65% of above are BIS miles and I still work every LONEx and DONEx that I can. Not sure how fast the next million will come but I'm sure it'll be fun just the same.

Kudos one and all!!:p

That's awfully close to Lifetime Gold on AAdvantage. I am still about 200K short of that milestone. However, I do LOVE the redemptions. Just redeemed 2 x F awards with stopovers in KUL and BKK flying a combination of QF (domestic only), CX and BA, for a TOTAL of 360K miles and US$242.50. If using QF FF program for the exact same itinerary, it would have been 362,500 points EACH, plus a heck of a lot more required in $$$ co-payment.

Congratulations

The eVIPs that you earn will be valid for 1 year regardless . If you wait till december, they will be valid till december 2009
