The great SC chase

Hi everybody,

I'm based in LAX for the next 8 months, looking to get my 1200SCs to requal for QF WP.

I've been busy with studies etc, so I haven't had a chance to go through all the threads and work out the riddles. I have heaps of QF points for ASAs, but I think the only one I could do is LAX-JFK and back isn't it?

Would be happy to spend some cash to maintain QF WP.

Let me know, cheers

Neil

Head on over to the KUPP/YUPP thread. Being in LAX you're well positioned to do some nice runs to the Carribean. Send me a PM if you want some specifics.

$1.28

Ok Ok friends keep asking.
So I have not done this origin, but I have done this destination.
And yes, lets have an easy puzzle this time.

I do not recommend this destination for a family jaunt!!!

You should harvest 7 segments at least, 610 SC's , 1 free stopover, 1 extra stopover for $125. But, fare rules can change very quickly.

If you are a Cupertino fan boy, this is not for you, you have to find the Space Needle to start.

And your destino is the former Las Mercedes airport.

This is an MPM ticket, and you get an extra 750 miles allowance if you travel via LAX,DFW, or MIA.
I checked this for Feb 13th out , Feb 17th back on ITA.
I checked the fare on AA.com which gave a 6 segment fare easily, prior to "working" on the fare with the AAngels in DFW.

It is currently an I fare which is good, is $688 ish, and gives under US$1.30 per SC, but no Mr Squiggles.

Hello friends,
Sigh, what are QF doing??
A man goes away for 6 months, and what faded shell of an airline and loyalty programme remains?

As an example $1.30, is a distant dream.

A small riddle to show how bad compared to a few years back.
Space Needle origin , just like above. Destino Queen Beatrix.
I see an August pricing $1,296 on ITA, BUT maximum of 6 segments. With the new SC earn per segment, I can only harvest 540 but no Mr. Squiggles. $2.40 per.
The only plus I can find for this fare is it allows a free stopover.

Shows how the game is a lot less fun. John.

Any good suggestions for SC runs between thanksgiving and christmas? Prefer to stay within the US and starting from PHL

Hello friends. It has been a while. We don't have anyseat awards anymore. And "fairer and simpler" is an abuse of the English language.
In honour of me finishing up a very nice bit of work in Costa Rica, I though I would just show what is still out there.
No quiz questions, and this has not been booked by myself, as I come here on an AONE5. But google flights priced it with a button ready to click to book online with AA, that highly profitable airline, now run by a LCC chief executive (Mr Parker).

US$1186, 10 segments, 630 status credits, and a nice time in San Jose.
Priced last night 02 April Depart, 10 April return.

As I said, no quiz questions this time

If I recall, it was an "I" fare too, even better if there are irrops. Please enjoy, the game is not the fun it used to be, but we all do what we can.
Happy travels, and and hello to Red Roo, who , of course, WILL be reading this. It was nice you could meet us on the hanger visit at the BNE recent function. John.
ps the Published fare in coach was us$1,099. !!

Nice find John.

I had a good one by mistake on a work trip to HOU a little while ago... irrops resulted in a re-routing to my favour (extra 40 SC ).

Hello friends!

2016

Just to keep it in the same thread for posterity.
Both of these were booked a little while back, are ticketed , and will be flown near term.
I have shown the earn if all segments were going to credit to QF.

Both of these runs have been well publicised.

West Coast to PTY - US$1,066 - 13 segments (two in I) - 720 SC's - earn 26,400 miles (as Platinum) - US$1.48.

West Coast to SJO - US$966 - 15 segments (two in I) - 680 SC's - earn 22,450 miles (as Platinum) - US$1.42.

Happy and safe travels to all. John.

And a bit of a word of warning. I had quite a few segments post as the wrong class of travel on one of the tickets above. I scanned the boarding passes ( which displayed the correct class travelled ) , sent them to QF and after a period of time QF Frequent Flyer posted adjustment entries to add the missing SC's and miles. I wonder if the America West takeover of AA's Advantage software is behind *ups sometimes posting segments as "coach". I will be watching for further anecdotal reports of this. Happy travels. John.

You mean former US Air?
No, I mean America West. It is me recognizing the pedigree of the Phoenix bean counters who took over US Air and now AA.. America West took over USAir Sep' 05 (Note- "Reverse takeover") and all USAir management was then conducted from Tempe, AZ . Cheers. John.

Pretty much the same with the airline that now calls itself United. Never did like Continental.

The Chase continues,
but this was madness and is not recommended.

Extreme discretion required -
So someone I know was in a certain country, and had a day to visit 2 people. So as one does, he found a 5 segment journey, including 3 hours each in the 2 locations required, and including an ex US Air A330 segment. Cost was 197 of that nation's federal reserve notes.
Expected redeemable miles in the now horrid progrAAmme was about 106 miles for the 5 flights.

Being an Emerald in thAAt program (note 2 spelling errors!) all 5 segments were upgraded into the so called "First Class" product. (But I digress....as one does.)

So bright eyed and bushy tailed, your correspondent's friend gets the motel shuttle at 04:35 ready for the first flight at 06:50.

Long Story short 1. First connection is 57 minutes. First flight has 65 minute tech delay prior to takeoff. Lands at 2nd city and proceeds to gate. Air bridge operator is not found for 10 minutes, then makes 4 attempts to align said airbridge with 1L, wasting another 8 minutes.
Result - miss 1st connection by 7 minutes......hmmm a typical day in North America!!
(A certain moderator I know , knows exactly what this experience is like).

Long Story short 2. The day is a mess, but friend's Emerald service desk, confirming friend is in possession of 4 "First Class" boarding passes, works to re-book onto 4 other flights - visit to 1 friend out of 2, no A330, gets back to motel that night, all in D and I inventory now.

Long Story short 3. Hmm...friend thinks, will change FF from something else to QF for the 4 remaining segments.

Long Story short 4. As one does, one reports poor customer experince to operating airline via their "contact me" page, and shortly after is awarded 7,500 miles to assuage the dastardly below par morning experience.

And the result (Don't try this at home viewers) "friend" spent 197 frn's, compensated 7,500 miles, valued at 150 frn's. And for the net 47 frn's, was awarded 100 sc's by the "Simpler and Fairer" people in Subic Bay, or wherever they answer the phone these days (But I digress...as one does).

47c per SC

Anyway friend only saw 1 friend that day, not 2.

Have you checked out SC earn with a ticket starting from the former ALY?
Star Trek fans will appreciate the new airport code, but I digress.....

You could look at going to Hell, and not having the new electronic nightmare announced today visited on you.
A September journey, A$1,082 and 420 fairer and simpler SC's.

Happy Travels. John.

ahh, the joys of travel John. One always reaches the final destination despite some bumps along the way.

I was flying from away from terror on an awful flag carrier last week, and a few irregularities meant my poor strAAggling ticket lost its uniform and gained a lovely lady. A Ms Roberts from Notting Hill I believe her name was.

Our delay was limited to 10 minutes, so the compensation was 40 of those SC things.

John....you lost me after the first few sentences....can you translate into English for me in Newcastle in May?
I keep my SC chase very simple...Syd-Lhr on QF J followed by Lhr-Vie on BA J return...booked when QF had a double SC promo, so a total of 1200 SCs rtn and platinum status renewal provided I can find 2 more ~....and cost $0.00 per SC :)
