The great SC chase

I assume the destination airport shares its "name" with it's neighbour to the west?

I have been to the western neighbour numerous times, but never across the border.

I think it could be fun to visit now that the 'new' big man is a former bus driver... And yes, I agree - best to leave the kids at home ;)

It turns out John and I are talking about two different airports. However both airports have offered good value in the past and continue to do so from from time to time.

Looks like I need to brush up on my Spannish :)

A visit to a trusted travel agent here could be valuable. There is an unofficial government-subsidized travel program here.

A similar (albeit not as valuable) government-subsidized travel program exists in another place too, enjoying zero exclusivity.

I know this second program's name is Blue, and its even advertised in local papers. But what concerns me is what shade of charcoal both programs may be.

As for John's route... I have no idea.

Hello All,

Long time listener, first time caller.

I'm currently a PS and am heading to the US in April for a conference in LAS. I'd like to do a run for WP.

I'll most likely need around 900-1000 SC and was hoping to work with a budget of around $1500. Less if possible. I could take up to 3 days to get it all done. I'd be looking to start the run from LAS on April 11.

I'm very much a newbie at this, and despite spending the last two days reading many a thread, I'm having a hard time working it all out. I was hoping someone wouldn't mind holding my hand through the process (via PM if you'd prefer) and help with a route.

I'm currently considering LAS-LAX-MCO-MIA-SJU but am finding it expensive.

Is LAS-ORD-MIA-SJU a better option?

Would anyone like to offer other suggestions?

Sincere thanks in advance!

Some awesome stuff in here, thanks to all contributing. In the LOTFAP in May, which is perfect timing as my anniv. date is June 1.

I have reasons to be in a place of Higher learning in the North East later in the year.

The best I got so far is $1.75 per unit.

Going through Rocky Mountain High.

Q's:

1) Is that acceptable or way off the charts in terms of value ?

2) [unrelated to #1] is 70 min sufficient for a turn-around at St John's University ?

I would appreciate any discussion by PMs when / if you feel that should be the case.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to not be some help, but I will be there around the same time, are you going for a software conference?

I'll only need 300 odd SC now, so hoping to find a cheap way to get to JFK from LAS in F on the cheap!

I'll be at NAB? But it's not really a software conference.

1. Yes. See serfty's guide in post 129.
2. Should be ok. Is it the same aircraft turning around? If so then 100% no worries.

Thanks, vec.

I think I will settle for $2.08 as it requires no red eye nor a hotel stay.

Same day return and more than what I require.

Per Serfty's rule of thumb, it should be value-OK.

PS: seeing that one layover @ DFW is only 50 min prompted me to look again resulting in an extra cost of $4.00 with a net gain of 60 SC bringing the net total cost per SC down to $1.86. Happy as Larry I am !

Friends, friends! Before I even bother starting to look, please do tell if any of this fun can work with DL and possibly even VX?

Hi everybody,

I'm based in LAX for the next 8 months, looking to get my 1200SCs to requal for QF WP.

I've been busy with studies etc, so I haven't had a chance to go through all the threads and work out the riddles. I have heaps of QF points for ASAs, but I think the only one I could do is LAX-JFK and back isn't it?

Would be happy to spend some cash to maintain QF WP.

Let me know, cheers

Neil

LAX-JFK on the QF tag flight can only be booked as part of an international itin. Assuming you already have your 4 ~ then just do one (or two) of the AA YUPP runs. If you havn't gotten the ~'s then perhaps an ASA back to Aus for these.

You actually can't... That flight has a traffic restriction, you must be connecting to or from Australia to buy a seat on that service.

To use points in the USA is actually quite hard. Your best bet is a JASA to the land of the long white cloud, but getting Uniform class seats across the pacific can be challenging unless booking well in advance.

To solve your dilemma there are two components:

  1. You need 4 Mr Squiggles (~) from paid fares (or ASAs) on QF group airlines
  2. You need 1200 SC overall from any source (providing the above is satisfied.

From LAX part 2 is quite straightforward as there are numerous AA "runs" which can yield SCs at excellent rates (anything under $2-3 is excellent value). Many of the runs hinted to in this thread are still alive (hence the are hinted to, not explicitly published).

Do you have any Mr Squiggles so far this year?
