Yep - the same ACCC who brought proceedings against Yazaki for cartel conduct (to do with Toyota Camrys) and secured a fine of $46m in the Federal Court 2 weeks ago.

Record $46 million in penalties for Yazaki cartel

They have also amassed about $3m in fines against the egg companies selling eggs as free range.

Yes, the same ACCC that is obviously after much bigger fish than a small time blogger asking for free accom without disclosing it.

Call me an old fart but the majority of these people are talentless, qualificationless people who just want their 15 mins of fame and/or easy riches.

How we've maybe I'm not their target market
Ialso have the same opinion about food bloggers too

Wow, am I out of touch, this has been an interesting read. I suppose this is one of many "businesses/scams/opportunities etc. that's cropped up in the Brave New World (or should it be 1984?) of social media. I do quite like brashness of the author of the request, even better for the hotelier to write back with a lovely NO letter.

I am involved in a conference that puts a mega-buck of business to the Hotel we select, and we never get what they have asked for, might try it next time!!!!!!

My kids keep telling me I'm out of touch as i told them I did notice the other night late on QF from SYD to MEL I was one of only a few who had paper boarding passes. Luddites unite, stick to our fountain pens and pocket watches.........

I'm with you...paper boarding passes....

Surely the world of bloggers/social media influencers could be somewhat self policing ? Talk of ACCC and governmental action is fanciful, but oh the internet has no mercy. It would depend on where the line is drawn but if someone seriously crossed it then “the internet” would have a field day ... trouble is the line is not so much drawn as faintly sketched.

So all these years I have been doing it wrong, I regularly do reviews on Trip advisor, (Several hundred in fact)not for the fame and glory, but so I can remember where I went. Let's face it, After years of travelling all hotels blend together in your memories. Now I find out I could be paid. Bah Humbug.

I used to do a lot of reviews/reports on TA but only occasionally now.I was active mainly on the Tassie forum. On one occasion I visited a business I had commented on a few times and paid for my stuff with my MC which does have my name as Dr.Ron .........
When he saw it the owner said-You must be drron.I owned up.But all I got was thanks for recommending his business. If only I knew then what I know now.

there is a hotel that everytime I visit the country I always stay a few days,

I also like to try a new hotel everytime, and every time I end up thinking my regular one is the best value for money by far,
3star rated hotel with 3 star price but with 4 star hotel,

I write a glowing review everytime I go , and ive yet to receive a free uprade or anything,

however, im not expecting it, as im writing a review to let others know of how awesome the hotel is

To reuse an old phrase, one swallow doesn't make a summer. A couple of cases of significant fines does absolutely nothing for the persistent minor misdemeanours of so many corporates over many years they do nothing about. And the issue being discussed here is the most minor of all.

I highly recommend you give it a go if you feel it will be effective to claim to them over such a relatively minor issue, I for one wont be wasting my time but sometime you just need to feel the pain yourself.

Why would I need to complain? I really don’t pay heed to social influencers so don’t have an issue. I was simply pointing out there is a regime there for enforcing misleading and deceptive content.

You’d be surprised how active the ACCC is. As ANZ, Citigroup and Deutsche Bank is also finding out today...

You are right, I would be surprised. Again, my point is that you reference half a dozen high profile enforcement actions but this pails into comparison against the 29000 complaints made to the ACCC, and this ignores the vast majority of people who just don't feel a complaint is worthwhile. I'm not actually trying to diss the ACCC here, I think they do a pretty good good job given the miserable funding they get from a pro business government. But the Royal commission into banks provides a pretty good guide as to how consumers are being dudded by big business and you'd be a fool to think this is only happening with the banks given the governance.frameworks we have!

From the article ->
Could you think of any other business industry where it would be frowned upon for someone to reach out to a potential client and offer them an opportunity?

Why yes, the spam email market is just one example, and whilst it's perhaps not as intrusive as magic pills to enhance your member, I could imagine it would get very tiresome very quickly when you have a business to run, and having to sort the wannabe's from the actual paying customers.

I read that and laughed.
They mentioned CNN reaching out with a rate card.

Most of these 'bloggers' would be more akin to a community radio station, who'd equally get laughed out of town.
