Just posting a few photos of a cabin from the Longreach Tourist Park to give people a bit of an idea of things. Configerations vary but this was a cabin we stayed in during Aug 2015. Easy walk to Qantas Founders Museum, Stockman's Hall of Fame and flat shortish walk to downtown. Forgot to take photos of cabin before we settled in:)

Things are up in the air* a bit with work, so I am not sure if I can still make it. But if all goes to plan flight JT003 will transport the F lounge. I hope to know in the next few weeks.

*As if that wasn't intended!
 
The Tourist Park is where I spend most of my time, but the Kinnon & Co lodges are slightly better if you can get them, too ;)

Both, as you point out, are closer to the airport and major attractions of the town than the town itself, but it's always a fun walk into town past the local wildlife :p

QF has a Coast to Coast sale on until 7 October for travel from 12 January until 22 June, so I've booked my flights!
 
The $109 o/w fares are available BNE-LRE for Fri 29th April & also returning on Sun 1st May on the current Qantas Australia Coast to Coast Sale A great opportunity to come along to this event . Sale ends 7th Oct.

A place I really want to get to, but unfortunately I have a reunion with some school day friends planned in Singapore that clashes with those dates. :(

Thanks to BVT for alerting me to sale fares, I have my return flights.

We now have 16 Platinums (that's confirmed bookings)!! Only 7 months to go ;)
 
I'm currently in Longreach, and have done / will do all the things Sam has on his schedule. ..this will be a fabulous event! so go if you can....Did the 747 wing walk yesterday which was lots of fun!!

Heat is fine...flies are very annoying!
 
The show / dinner at the Heartland theatre is worthwhile. ..it is not on every night though.

Not sure when things changed, but I was allowed to take pictures inside the 707 which was previously not allowed...will post a few when on my main computer :)

At least a couple years ago they stopped enforcing the no photos onboard the 707 rule. I presume they received the 707 for a discounted price with a few conditions for a number of years afterwards, otherwise it doesn't make much sense for the reason why they changed course.

I'll have a look at Heartland Theatre when my internet gets unshaped (wont load at present)...
