I might need to waitlist F but have never done it before.

Are these correct?

- Waitlist F
- Book confirmed J
- if it clears, cancel J paying $75 fee
- Confirm F

I am planning to do something similar but wanted to know how long does it take for the miles to get credited back to the account on a cancelled redemption tic?

Reason I ask is I only have enough points to redeem one set of flights so I am relying on the points being returned to my account fairly quickly to confirm my waitlisted flights.

hmm, So I am confused again .

So I can have first class waitlisted and then book / confirm business class and if later on the first class becomes available, i can book that and cancel my business class? And I pay a small fee for doing so? Is that the $25 fee mentioned earlier? or is it more?

1. Book and pay J then call KF and request Agent to add F or R waitlists to your confirmed flt - if clear you can upgrade online or call KF to do so
2. Book and pay J then create separate W/L booking for F/R - then if F/R clears call KF and explain and Agent can sub F/R for J - either way you can get over line

If you use either of those methods there is no cancellation fee - you will have to pay extra charges to upgrade J to F/R

From what I read you should call to do it. They can issue the ticket and just deduct additional miles.

I was recently advised that WL will not clear until 3 weeks before the flight. I questioned that WL wouldn’t clear say, 4 months < the flight? She seemed sure of her statement, but I still wondered if she was misinterpreting that they will cancel a WL if not cleared three weeks before the flight. Any other recent experiences?

Never flown business or first class before (besides an upgrade to business when i was a child) how does it work with Singapore airlines if i am flying lets say business to bangkok from sydney via Singapore? Do I get to use the lounges in both sydney and singapore? Also If I wanted to fly first class, then i cant fly to bangkok, only to singapore as there are no first class seats to bangkok, so i could use more points to make separate bookings for first to singapore then business to bangkok. How would the lounges work with that? I presume there are different lounges for first and business

Should just be a single call. With a change fee of $25 USD.

If you fly SYD-SIN in F you would have access to the F lounge in SYD as well as the F Lounge and TPR on arrival in SIN based on arriving in F.

If you are in Business for both flights then you would have access to the business lounges in SYD and SIN.

You'd purchase a mixed class award, via the call centre, that included F AU-SIN followed by J SIN-BKK. This will work out cheaper than the sector fares being added together.

One thing I'm not sure on - whether this has changed or not - is that you need to have the required number of points in your account to upgrade. So if you want to waitlist multiple flights - do that first before booking and 'paying' for the flight you can get confirmed.

I have tonnes of points at the moment so the waitlist isnt an issue. As I have never used anypoints besides a couple of domestic flights ..i know big mistake, have lost a lot of value in devluation but i didnt realise that was happening till the last couple of years. Have been earning these points for several years and hardly used them

What is TPR? Also I know Y is economy, Y+ is premium economy?, J is Business, F is first class, what is R?

R is Suites.

Suites are only on the A380. The larger aircraft allows for a bigger F cabin.

I would say they are a better experience but First is still great. Service/food will be the same.

There is a case however for more personal service in First on the 777 where there is a maximum of 4 passengers rather than a full cabin in Suites of up to 12.

Really, there are only 4 first class passengers max on the 777, didnt realise they had cabins that small . That would be more personal.

How often do they usually devalue points? I noticed there was a slew of them recently with Amex and all the airlines as well, I am just wondering if i should try to use my points asap.

And for airlines it's been a case of moving to dynamic pricing. QF's devaluation was, well, just an outright devaluation.

But once they happen you'll be fine for a few years. SQ's devaluation was not so long ago, I wouldn't be expecting another for at least a few years.

If one of your FFP's hasn't been through this change you could want to consider using up points, but you'll usually get wind of an impending change and be able to make a last minute award or two.

Even if your points are about to expire you can still book a ticket for up to a year in advance - although if you cancel the points will automatically expire.
