Still learning! I agree with many of the above opinions. I have also had great value from the fee Free For Life Citibank credit card I have. I also believe that the Trip Reports that I read widen my aspirations! My biggest financial gain is probably the Lifemiles program. I will probably think of more.

JASAs, the RGN deal, and credit card churning opportunities :)

Learnt about Expertflyer.com seat to check real time seat availability. How to use different Expedia sites to advantage. Discovered that i missed out on grabbing a return J class glitch in Qatar's system for AUS 500 BKK to Europe Next time when I don't believe my eyes I will go ahead and see what offers come my way. Thanks to members who assured me that it also happened as seen on Fllyer talk. I now know I am not losing the plot! thanks to all who are willing to share their expertise. Still have a lot of homework to do JoyV

Well firstly the OW 140k award which i was able to use in 2011 for a pretty good RTW trip, but then the USDM program which allowed me to take my first business class flights... The USDM program is in doubt now with the AA merger, so short lived unfortunately...

This is now one of my favourite threads with a good summary what should be learnt for us beginners.

Many many things from AFF have enriched my travels and enhanced my business.
Possibly the best is the people I either get to meet or learn from!

Some years ago, I was redeeming shopping vouchers with points. Now, I have JASAs to fly on, and various F lounges to sip bubbles in.

There are so many things I've learned! Being about to pick up a DONE4 from JNB, the joys of a cheap JASA, but the best thing ever was the ex RGN deal. I booked the whole family F from RGN (J first leg to BKK) to Europe and then from RGN to MEL with EK, including an F suite! All about $1000 each! Love AFF!

As a newbie it would be the status runs and related SC tips. I also enjoy the trip reports such as the inaugural SYD-DXB QF1 flight.

Many tips but especially my first J* First Lounge run last week and an upcoming JASA in October which will be my first long haul flight in J.

High up there are the people I have met through this forum, from crazy QF81 farewell trips to meeting someone in an Flounge somewhere in the world... just amazing. And thinking you would tell your children not to meet some stranger you met on the internet for drinks ;)

The best one for me would be international cheap JASAs, they allowed me to go from steady 1000SC Gold to Plat. I have now also signed up for Avianca LM just in case my J travel dries up and have to go back to Y so I can just use points to fly J. Some of the crazy status runs people work out (I am still going to go to HBA from CBR vis SYD one day :)) but most of all how willing people on this site are to help other travelers and share their experiences and knowledge. Big thanks to everyone :!:

Meeting some of these "handles" in person, a few times, at various airports, lounges and "do"s (admittedly, it has been at FlyerTalk events, i'm yet to attend an AFF "do" - but a lot of people from FT have already posted in this thread ;) ) has probably been most valuable so far. The knowledge then gleaned through conversations has clued me in to

- CX fares from an Island Nation
- YUPP fares on AA
- Using ExpertFlyer + ITA Matrix to nail down those airfares

There's also a marked shift in thinking. Going from C to B is no longer about going from C to B, especially when going via M can be cheaper than going via C to B, boom-tish

The idea of status runs and ASA. Damn AFFers really suck you in! I don't fly that often compared to most of AFF but went from NB since start of QFF membership to achieving SG last week, all because of AFF brainwashing.

Also the value of ASA compared with Classic Awards, did not critically analyse that last year when I booked a AKL-MEL classic award flight, before my time at AFF.

There are quite a few things, especially:

1. Cheap J/FASAs
2. DONE4s
3. Credit cards to QFF points
4. Flounge runs
5. Tax on Credit Cards

... and I'm aiming for LTG in about 4 years...

BUT

I read drron:

There have been many but still in front is this-
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....he-great-points-transfer-aadvantage-6802.html

That is why I am LTP on AA with still a million miles to burn.

Which I missed in my early days of AFF and I haven't stopped banging my head against the wall :(
