SIN-MEL 789, September 17

Can't find where equipment came from or why this seemingly Ad Hoc flight.

Pre covid, the flight number was used for a seemingly seasonal 2nd PER-SIN-PER flight. The QF78 number was last used in Feb 2020.
Maybe a charter?

They are selling seats on it? Possibly not a charter

The aircrafts coming into Singapore as QF300 Baku to Singapore charter.

Leaves Baku at 9:30am on Monday 16 Sep and arrives into Singapore at 10:35pm then will operate QF78 as a regular flight.

Given the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix F1 wraps up on 15 Sep I'd guess it's probably related.

They've moved around a PER-FCO QF5 and cut one FCO-PER QF6 to make this happen.

On 15 Sep a 787 is going over to Rome as a regular commercial flight QF205 MEL-PER-FCO (normally PER-FCO wouldn't operate on a Sunday). The PER-FCO is a rather full flight J5 W1 Y7 which makes me think they've been planning this for a while and it's been on sale for a while. It's also unique because it's a daytime departure from Perth with the entire flight basically operated during daylight and originating in Melbourne instead of Sydney.

The plane is then leaving Rome and departing as QF6001 (ferry flight number) on 15 Sep at 11:40pm arriving Baku at 5:45am on 16 Sep. Departing a few hours later as QF300. Given the short layovers in Rome and Baku I'd guess that QF's going to position crew in Rome, Baku and Singapore to make this all happen.

Ah yes I vaguely remember this being discussed when it was scheduled:

Gawd, there are now only 26 seats allocated in economy.

Business class has 6 seats unallocated as well (also showing J6). The cabin has 42 seats.

PE was ¾ allocated last week has now just 3 seats allocated.

Well the 60 or so PAX all fitted into the the single bus that took us to the terminal for processing after we landed.

Just a shame it took 40 minutes for the stairs to be attached after coming to a stop at a hard stand.

SOP for any remote hard stand I’ve ever had the misfortune to arrive at.
