The Operational Upgrade Thread

CX650 SIN-HKG today (24/1) Y -> Y+. Y is completely packed, with a few spare seats in Y+, and a lot of off-duty cabin crew paxing in J. I think about 5 - 6 Y pax had the op-up, having looked at the seat map a few days ago. How the new CIV system works on CX is still a mystery, but it worked well for me this time. I would've expected quite a few elites on this flight as it's the first CX HKG-bound flight out on a Saturday morning.

Just a question, had you webchecked in for this flight and were you using your QF WP?

Seems to be the once plentiful CX Op-Ups have dried up since the new checkin system was turned on.

Is there a new web check in system? I didn't seem to notice anything different on my recent CX flight.

There has been a change in the back-end DCS departure control system in late 2014, and some minor visible changes have resulted such as for example on older boarding passes sequence number used to display as 'BN' = Boarding number, it now show on the BP as 'SEC' number.

Dragonair and Cathay complete move to new check-in system

Had two very nice upgrades on this current trip and both a surprise as the KUL > CDG from J to F (1A) my QFF No. was not in the MH system. (The room on the plane was bigger than my first German hotel that night!!!) Second one four days later was BA CDG to LHR Y to J, given at the gate. Haven't had this run of "upgrade luck" for a long time.

Well whaddaya know!

On EK186 a 388 from BCN to DXB which had to return to blox with a technical issue.

Turns out a couple of escape slides are u/s but an MEL can be applied.

Because of that a number of pax had to be reseated away from the exit doors so it appears quite a number of pax were upgraded to J - self included.

The Lufthansa Technik engineers are just finalising the paperwork & all pax have been re-issued their new boarding passes in J.

Despite the 3 hour delay I'll still make my connecting flight but won't have much time at the DXB Airport Hotel.

Btw it was part of a Classic award with the EK flight booked in "N" class so I think any op-ups are solely based on tier status.

I got this quite some time ago but forgot to post it.

Booked EK404 in Y as a classic award with full QF points. Selected a VOML as well for the flight.

Upgraded to J at check in.

Was that DXB/SIN or DXB/MEL?

What happened with your whY VOML - did they still serve you that in J or did you get regular (non-VOML) J food?

The upgraded ppl on my flight were served economy meals due to the last minute nature of the upgrade but were offered J class alcoholic beverages eg Verve Cliquot which they didn't have to do.

Didn't get amenity kits either as they wouldn't have catered for the extra J pax but not complaining as I got more sleep that I would have in whY.

It was SIN-MEL. I was served the J version of VOML but i chose to have the starter as per the standard menu instead. All the frills associated with J were given including the kit (which i got so many times it got boring) ;)

Now i hope EK would get rid of moet in J and replace them with veuve instead! :/

Your wish is their command as they were serving Veuve on the A380 BCN/DXB.

I was once flying on staff flights from LHR to HKG, so was on standby. The plane was full, so no flights for me. Until at the very last minute when everyone else was on the plane, I was called to the desk and offered a jump seat for the flight. I took it as I needed to get home but without a doubt the most uncomfortable 12 hours in the air ever! No food, no IFE, cold, no recline. It was certainly an experience!
I'm not complaining, the flights were cheap and I was given PE from HKG to SYD.

Not sure if this counts as an op up but today while travelling with a work mate from Syd-Mel was asked at the lounge

Angel - welcome Mr Groundhog, would you and your colleague like to sit together
Me - ok
Angel - leave it with me and i will see what i can do as the flight is full
Me - ok
5 mins later
Angel (via PA) - Mr Groundhog could you please see me at the service desk
Me - ok
Angel - i could only manage to sit you together in row 4 (A330) enjoy the flight
Me - ok

Actually it was more like fist pump, but you get the idea

Sound's like it was groundhog day. ;)

Op Up at the gate today from Y to Club World for our VCE-LHR flight today - Mrs Rugby was very happy. Had a nice prawn curry and decent Sav Blanc quaffer too.

Nice op-up!
Was it on the refurbished A321 by any chance? I've tried it last week and was quite impressed with the hard product.

Leaving CMB on a weekend has proven useful for status holders. OPup Y->J all the way to HKG on an M class ticket. Alas the 6 hour layover was enough time to have coffee in the outlet mall but finding a shower on my return was frustrating. Though this was is part due to my lack of forward planning and the closure of F pier lounge with no notice that the business part was still open a few gates further down the way. And I did get the shower though I also got some additional exercise. And the miles/points upgrade to PEY to MEL offered about 4-5 hours sleep on the 7 hour flight.

Happy wandering
