The Operational Upgrade Thread

It's on the BP, too. Maybe that's why they use it? The plot thickens!
Its very simple actually, if an operational upgrade is what you are after, then you need the CLPO with a substantial SC history on the BP. Everyone else can suck eggs.

CLPO friend says invariably the upgrade comes through before arrival at the airport or in the lounge.

SYD-HKG 22 Jun 09

Was upgraded from Economy (Award) to Premium Economy.

While the seat maps and availability of fares showed plenty of availability in Y, the cabin was completely full.

Was op-up'd at the gate. Both Economy and Premium Economy were full, so looks like Qantas oversold both classes.

QF Plat btw.
Maybe a Cathay flight was delays or canceled and they transferred ppl to QF?

Wow, no activity since March, no wonder I had trouble searching for this thread.

CBR-MEL. Moved to an earlier flight in the J lounge on a flexi fare and was promised the Y window seat next to me would be vacant. I think that was very optimistic to say. Moments later was paged back and given a boarding pass for J.

No posts since... my last post in Oct 2019?! Thank goodness it hasn’t been locked from inactivity!

QF MEL-CBR, travelling with +1 on a separate booking. Had earlier asked VIP team to seat us together in Y which they nicely agreed to do. When at the kiosk printing out passes, we’d both been moved to J. Apparently a very full flight, with a positioning FA also in row 1.

My BP didn’t have an ‘Enjoy your flight’ (never got one of those) so seems to be an op-up rather than a P1 freebie.

That likely brought the +1 travelling with FFan to the attention of the VIP team

More generally, how does QF know if you want to be seated next to another passenger in a separate booking, that that passenger also wants to be seated next to you?

Booking probably got linked when request to seat together.

Why no op-ups?

Travelled return BNE-DOH-ADD in QR, flexible J to avoid bumping, so no upgrade there.
Return BNE-SYD in J because Mrs Pineapple is leery of post-Covid Y. So no upgrade.
That's my total flying in 12 months. Every flight 1/2 empty in Y (except DOH-ADD) so no call for upgrades.

The post-COVID good outcome
1. You don't get bumped
2. You don't get one of these:
Anyone on flight QR898 arriving BNE 05/03/2021 is considered a COVID-19 close contact. Current quarantine direction will not change. If COVID-19 symptoms develop please call reception to organise a COVID-19 test immediately. Thank You.

Cheers skip

Another op-up CBR-MEL, on the first anniversary of my last one (see upthread)…

Will post again in a year’s time if QF throws me a bone again then and keep this thread unlocked
