The Operational Upgrade Thread

Just got upgraded from Y to J from BKK to HKG on CX2700......I seem to get more upgrades on CX than on QF.

Ive got a connection now to ICN will I get two in a row?? Highly unlikely!

What are op-up chances checking in at Domestic counter in Sydney versus Melbourne First Counter?

Flying J SYD-xMEL-LHR on Thursday and F looks fairly empty

It does not really matter what the First cabin looks like. How does the business cabin look?

If business is full then you may have a chance of an op-up. If you are at the top of the list then it wouldn't matter where you checked-in.

Upgrade from Y (discount, el cheapo) to Y+ on CX 156 (BNE - HKG). Big golf trip, 2 rounds in HKG, Royal HKG Golf Club and Clearwater Bay, then 3 rounds in BKK (Alpine Golf Club + two others in Hua Hin). Only brought a few balls, better be ripping it off the tee:cool:

Also SNA upgrades at Westin Bangkok and Sheraton HKG. Needless to say, a few pints will be had at my old stomping grounds in HKG.

Happy camper here on QF12 overnight and got an Op upgrade at the gate (without request) from paid Prem Economy to J - a nice surprise and a good nights sleep. Keep them coming Qantas! I suspect Platinum status helped get me to the top of the list
I didn't get one going over on QF11 earlier in the week though.

SYD-BNE Flight cancelled, took next flight 1 hour later, got to airport ~1 hour before new flight and economy only showing 5 vacant seats.

Went to boarding gate late in boarding process and scanner beeped. FA mentioned that I have new seat. Went to service desk and he handed me boarding pass only slightly better than last boarding pass.

I went from 24D on cancelled flight, to 26J on new flight and then 2F after the op-up. ;)

Op-up x 2 yesterday on CX163 HKG-MEL from Y+ to J. First international op-up for me and first time trying the new CX J cabin!:) I think Typhoon Usagi might have been at play here with all CX flights being 100% full.

What status do you currently hold? I like the new J CX cabins

I'm QF WP and my wife is QF SG. I got a seat alert from EF indicating that our Y+ seats were available 2 hours before departure (I always set up EF alerts for the elusive OP-up...)

I got upgraded from Y to J on HKG-BNE flying CX two years ago as a QFF (no status) - no idea why! I checked in with a friend who was a member of Marco Polo (also flying Y), but we were on separate bookings - maybe we were put together at check-in? Is that possible?

Not a very exciting one but SWMBO and I are off to Brisbane for a wedding this weekend and half way down the air bridge realised that our tickets for QF548 SYD - BNE stated 5J and 5K (767-338). I used my passbook and SWMBO used her WP card and there was only green lights at the scanner so we hasn't realised. Much appreciated and a nice start to the weekend! :)

How often does Qantas do op-ups during OLCI? My Y+ seat became a front-cabin J seat when I did OLCI 10 hours before departure, for QF52 tonight.

Not often.. though I have had that experience myself a couple of times.. But generally it is at Boarding for Domestic and Check In (or at the gate) for Intl legs.

I had an Op-Up last week. SYD to MEL. Flight was full.

For that to happen to a "lowly" WP, it looks like the 744 will be (figurately speaking) struggling to take off tonight.

Pleased to report the upgrade season (school hols) was fruitful for me with a Mel-Syd 763 upgrade and a very welcome Per-Mel A333 (so skybed) upgrade after a long conference in WA.

Bring on the summer holidays!!!
