I am currently a Gold memeber and have a trip comming up which will push me to Platinum status, but say for example, if I have no travel next year then what happens to my status in the year after

Do I get downgraded to Bronze staright away or

Do I move to Gold and then to Silver in the year after and then to Bronze in the year after? assuming no travel in these years.

Thanks

No, you will not go straight down to Bronze. QFF has 'soft landings', so you'll go Platinum to Gold, then Silver then Bronze each year.

The only caveat to that might be 4 segment rule on QF that they have implemented/made a requirement. It is not clear yet that if you dont have the 4 segments whether you drop completely...

I didn't do credit 4 QF flights to QF FF and I was only dropped to Gold status from Platinum.

Then again, that may be something to do with being Lifetime Gold.

I have heard that failing to taking the 4 QF sectors will drop you back to the lowest level to which you can go , which would be bronze if holding no lifetime status

Dave

I had 0 SCs last membership year with no flights credited to QF. I dropped from WP to SG (I only have LTS).

So, from alect's experience, the answer appears to be 'a soft landing'.

When I started my descent I recall getting aletter each year along the lines of

"if you let us know you are going to increase your flights with us this year, then we'll let you retain status"

I think you can milk an extra year by contacting them and saying you have talked your employer into flying Qantas again.

The soft landing has long been a known feature of QFF. However, the difference here is that a year ago, Qantas started enforcing the '4 segment rule'.

There was some question whether a soft landing would apply in those cases where the 4 QF/JQ segments were not credited - alect's post seems to indicate the soft landing still applies.

I know. I'm not wanting to push my luck. One year I retained WP automatically when QF sent me as new WP card (no or little SCs). The next year I got the letter asking for more info and provided such - so was extended for another year (still no SCs). So I would say I have had a pretty good deal from QF and have no need of pushing my luck or their graces further ;)

Think I will fall into this same category.

Last year was granted WP renewal without significant crediting to QFF. I am expecting the "please explain" letter this year. I have met the 4 sector rule this year, so will be interested to see where I'll land come renewal time in August.

Could the takeover bid have had any bearing on QFF keeping their upper tiers full during the process? If QF is looking at spinning off QFF, would they want top tiers showing plenty of members?

Currently I am on Gold and have 660 SC for this year to retain Gold but only 2 QF segments. I was planning to have another trip before the my membership anniversary date to make it to Platinum but now the plans have changed. would be just doing SYD-JNB-SYD for 320 SC and the required 2 QF segments.

Just got a mail from QF that they are willing to extend my Gold membership for another year if I let them know of my next year's travel plans.

Before, I was going to take my return flight before 29Feb (anniversary date) but now I am thinking of changing it to 1st March to have the 160 SC credited in the next year

If you can get the 2 segments in, I would suggest that this would be worthwhile if you think that you may be tight on renewing next year; if they let you slide through this year after you detail your plans for next year, you won't get the same option next time

That's a good point Dave, keep the free extension option for a rainy year.

ummmmmmmmmmm, has nobody picked up on the 660SC's...

i.e. Gold status has already been attained (600 SC's required)

I am a little bemused at why QF would write asking of your future plans if you already had 660 SC's

because the 600 SCs is only part of the requirement. The other part is 4 QF flights and the OP only has 2 flights. So to retain Gold he needs two more QF flights.

If that is the case, find the cheapest Red E-Deals going and have a 1 day holiday ;)

Given the soft landing policy that has been mentioned, I have a feeling if pushed QF would retain the status given that the SC's had been met, and there were bookings in place on QF metal???

Just a thought anyway

Also the OP was asking about WP status:
