The Planespotting/General AV Geek Thread

Well, back in the day, jetliners didn't really need their entire wing...

That's fascinating - thank you.
I couldn't help but think about QF32 while watching that video. So close to a massive disaster!

That was the publicised point of wonder when the B777 was launched c. 1995.

I remember that. Especially since I flew EWR-LHR on an first gen 777-200 (non ER) not too long after they were launched. However those engines weren't nearly as large as the GE90 which is used on the 77W and 77L. So a bit of a false claims...

I was looking through some photos from my honeymoon last year. Found this one of sunset somewhere over Australia on the way to Singapore. Pretty sure the plane was an A330-300.

View attachment 40371 This really does not fit here with all the great shots of all the "real" aircraft, but I thought some might find this a bit funny. I was recently in Orly and the model was in the ticketing counter for Kuwait; not great advertising for safety. My French colleague said they should change their motto to "we fly on a wing and a prayer"!
Sorry Leadman I cant see the safety angle in this photo. The aircraft model seems to be the type of thing in many airports, just a four engine airliner maybe an A340. What is the black box underneath?

I think a section on the right wing and the outboard engine are missing.

Its only got three engines and 1 and 1/2 wings. Not really a good marketing move to leave a broken piece of advertising on display!

I get the picture and also the significance of the video link posted by PaulST. The pilots in those days could actually fly an aeroplane.

Is this for real or is it another photo shop job?

I cant believe that LAX traffic control would let this happen.

A great shot even it is a paste up!
