Here's something a little different. And if you're an aircraft buff, it isn't quite the aircraft you'll immediately think of....2021-03-29-0062.jpg

The Viking US-3A - the COD version. It's interesting that they're thinking of bringing the ASW versions back on line
There were only a few of the US-3 version made. Prototypes. For whatever reason, the USN didn't proceed with the contract, but it kept the ones that had been made. This one was on Diego Garcia, and was used to fly up to the carriers each day.

After 20 years of driving to Caloundra and not stopping by, I spent a couple of hours yesterday at the Qld Air Museum

Has anyone ever been to the aircraft boneyard in Victorville? I'll be driving from Vegas to LA in two weeks time and it's right on the route. I'm aware that you can't do a public tour or anything like that but just wondering if it's worth getting off the road to take a few pictures or just have a look.

Or it might just be an invitation for some rattlesnakes into my car  , who knows.

I have driven past, taken a few photos from the car, but not stopped for an extended look.

Okay thanks! So I'm assuming this means there's something to see from the road even if you took a few pictures? Worth it in my book, given it's on the route anyway and my better half will be locked in the car with me so protesting will be futile :D

My experience was quite a few years ago. Could see plenty of aircraft ... its pretty flat land with few trees to and just a high wire fence to block the view. But things may have changed since then ...

This plane came and parked at the neighbouring gate while I was boarding an SAS flight in CPH the other day:

The striking all-black livery on this ATR72-500 caught my attention, but I’d never heard of the airline “Aisle Express” before. Looks like they are a Danish regional airline flying from Copenhagen to places like Sønderborg and Guernsey, and they have only two planes.

My flight was to HAM. We flew over the Airbus factory in Hamburg on approach, and I noticed several brand new A320s in S7 liveries sitting on the ground there. I guess they won’t be going to their intended new owner any time soon…

Just wanted to follow up on my excursion to the "Southern California Logistics Airport" in Victorville. What looked very convenient "on the route" from Vegas to LA turned out to be more of an hour detour and unfortunately, a lot of the roads surrounding the vast complex, while open to the public, are unsealed dirt roads so I didn't want to risk it with my rental car.

Part of the surrounds are cut off with sight protectors on the fences but many or ripped or fallen off so that you see enough. The highlight however was straight at the entrance to the facility spotting two good old favourites: Qantas A380s in all their glory. Actually, the first thing I had spotted from afar was the red tail with the kangaroo on it and that alone was worth the slight detour for me :p
