Having just read through what is apparently the first of "quarterly" issues, I make the following observations:
1.- Overall it was a pleasant surprise that they have created this, and I like that they are finally being proactive in enhancing in some way the P1 experience. (I mean via the newsletter, not the passes, etc) Previous to this the main benefit I saw was they they help out as much as they can when things go wrong - this is a step in a positive, non-reactionary way to make P1 something nice.
2.- after going through it the biggest item is obviously the two Flounge passes per year. I really like that. They seem to have thought it through very well and I hope the implementation works well. Earlier this year I was given a paper Flounge invite when I was at the Syd Flounge (can't remember the exact reason it was some sort of promotion for P1 flyers). That was nice but I commented at the time that with the partner WP benefit, the main use of such a pass would be to gift to a friend or family member, and as these passes are rare, the nicest use would be to give to someone on a special trip, which would likely be a couple travelling. So two passes would be much nicer. This fulfills that
3.- The animation of how far you have travelled in the last 12 months is also a brief moment of nice entertainment, but it is egotistical of QF to think I only fly with them
(They are my third most frequent airline - I wish I only did those kilometres!)
4.- The 20% off specials on Qstore and EpiQure are of no interest to me, but maybe for some they are a benefit.
5.- much of the newsletter really wasn't P1 limited stuff - the usual sell on how new routes, the A380 refurbs, etc etc were great - I forgive Qantas for this part but being non-P1 specific is again of no real interest.
6.- The "interview" or whatever you call it with the P1 traveller - maybe it's real, but it just sounded so corporate/usual/fake that it was not too interesting. If they start doing the same for more unusual P1 travellers (like myself
) I would be much more interested.
7.- The introduction of a member of the P1 team was nice in concept, but again IMHO was a bit corporate and not personal enough. The last part where she mentioned the change of flight benefit just destroyed any sort of personal touch that part had a chance to achieve..
But as a whole, I truly welcome this deevelopment and really like that Qantas are actually working on things. As i said at the start, this was a pleasant surprise!
I won't add my wishlist (CL lounge invites, etc), but truly, thanks Qantas for showing some progress.......
