The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I booked a domestic US flight with QFF points, according to the Qantas manage booking I have no way to purchase baggage except at the airport, is this accurate? I cant seem to log into the American Airlines site with the ticket number and Qantas don't give a partner airline booking number.

You could try calling QF and asking for the AA PNR and see what you can do on the AA website/app.

Oh, one of those (AA website or app - sorry, I’ve forgotten which one), should recognise the QF eTicket number.

Plan C. Enter the QF booking reference into BA.com and go through to select seats. You should get the AA PNR during that process.

Thanks, It worked going through BA.

More of a curiosity question here;

I booked a SYD > MEL > SYD > HND CR flight via the multi-city tool. All on a one-way PNR.

In the Qantas app, SYD (0700HRS)> MEL shows up as one trip.
MEL (1700HRS) > SYD (2055HRS) > HND shows up as a separate trip.

Result is I have 2 check-in times for this PNR - I was hoping for one to get early seat selection on SYD>HND.

Question: How does Qantas determine where to "split" this PNR? Long layover in MEL? How I entered it into the multi-city tool?

FWIW I searched the following in the multi-city tool.
#1: SYD>MEL
#2: MEL > HND (same day as #1)

TIA for the answer, and cheers as always to this community for the wealth of knowledge it has provided me.

Update:
Did some random flight searches for August, September and October and all the early afternoon flights are now Y only and some of the late afternoon flights are also.

Called Sydney Bangkok Airways number and she confirmed our flight # ex USM is all economy now and it may be all flights are going that way (they are from BKK-USM)

So decided not worth even trying to call QF at present to change, as I half expect our SIN-USM will get downgraded also 😒

She did say, we should get a refund from Qantas - we wait patiently...
Update:
Called QFF today.
Agent said to wait until travel completed as aircraft  may change back to include business class (fair point but unlikely?)

After completion of travel to call back for reimbursement of price difference, could not indicate what this would be.

Anyone know if you can book China Eastern domestic China flights using Qantas points?

Tried to search for a domestic China route but computer says no.

Does Qantas publish fare class points earn table to determine how many points/SCs are earned for each paid flight? I could not find it at all.

I booked my wife and kids for Economy CX SYD-HKG return on fare class N. I am trying to find the best program to credit the points.

They do not publish the fare class publicly.
It takes an effort to find it.
Have to wait for the others, who are more into this than me, to see if an N class on CX will earn any QFF points and QFF SC, noting that the wife and the kids SC cant be transferred to you.
QFF points, that one yes.

Qantas Points and Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes, except on Cathay Pacific Airways codeshare flights operated by an airline other than Qantas or a oneworld member airline.

I dont see N class, so maybe you have to go for CXs own program or Avios.

According to this: under QF and CX agreement, there is no discY,

And N is not in the above table either, otherwise it would show under flexY.
Seems most airlines consider N subclass as discY.

So I finally managed to find the QF earn table by fare class. It took a lot of effort to find it. Maybe QF tried to hide it by making it very hard to find it:

Class N in CX does NOT earn any QF points, unfortunately.

Probably worth putting a sticky on this link somewhere .....

I think this will help you decide very quickly..

Another question, I booked QF44 DPS-SYD on Y with kids and wife, and looking at seat map, it looks like the A330-200 configuration below:

Given it is overnight flight, I want to see if I can book seats with more legroom.

I am looking to see if anyone has tried 44D-G seats before. Is it a lot more legroom than the standard seat? Those seats look like I can book without extra money required. But in seatgruru it is marked as yellow meaning there are both advantages and disadvantages.

So just booked the following paid wHY fares via QF:
SYD-ICN (on QF) S class
GMP-HND (on JL) V Class and
HND-SYD (QF) V Class.

No issue selecting seats for the 2 QF flights, used e-ticket number to go to JAL site to try and select seats for GMP-HND and even though they have my QFF so know I'm WP, no matter which seats I try to select it refuses to save (and almost every seat is available). Any ideas?

Also the QFF points calculator refuses to give me points and SC earn for GMP to HND on Japan Airlines - any idea what the V class earn is?

Question re: Spa at the F lounge (SYD and MEL). Been flying out of SYD and MEL international a few times in the past couple of months but never lucky in securing a spa/massage appointment .. last year these appointments were offered proactively but this year no luck so far. Even when I ask, I’m told that all slots are booked. This has happened 6 times so far in 2024.

I usually fly QF67 or QF69 or 1600h UL to CMB or the 2230h MH to KUL. Understand that the spa closes around 1500h or 1600h in both lounges.

May be a lot of P1s fly during these times?

I have seen this on Qantas multi city awards.

You effectively have two "trips".

If you have bags, I suggest checking on 90 minutes prior to the first flight.
