The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

uh this concerns me tbh.

try JQ. they're the best to be able to help I should think. I wouldn't wait till morning to verify I actually have a new booking.
Jetstar Chat says this;
( 4m 33s ) Jasmin: I can see that this is a Qantas replacement flight and we have new booking number for this. You only need the original booking number and to check in manually at the Qantas counter using you ID. You names will be forwarded to the Qantas check-in staff at the time of your flight.
Given Jetstar can't issue GDS tickets, I suppose that makes sense, but this seems a little cursed. I suppose my questions are;
  • Will I get a proper e-ticket (on a QFF-earning fare code) and therefore will I have QFF points credit properly? I don't really want to try to claim Jetstar ORC as that seems like a pain. I'd rather have it just credit as a Qantas flight (same points/SC as my purchased bundle anyway)
  • If there's no record on the Qantas end, how do they even reserve the seat for me and make sure the flight doesn't sell out? Maybe there's a block of seats reserved for JQ rebooking that then gets manually assigned at check-in? I hope that's the case...
Anyway, the Jetstar chat agent understandably couldn't answer these questions. I'm not in a massive rush to get to my destination tomorrow (SYD-MEL), so I'm not going to try to push this further (I don't even know how you can really escalate this with Jetstar anyway).

A bit of PITA that they didn’t carry over your QFF number. Otherwise it would just be there in your QF bookings…

I have a inner yellow alert going off.. but good luck (and since you're not pressed for time I guess not a huge issue.. ). let's hope it works as advertised.

tbh I'd be annoyed though - as you say to do an assignment, QFF# etc - you get to check in you get 29E if you're lucky?

fingers crossed.

An update for anyone playing along at home. I just got this email about 3 hours after rebooking. It came from [email protected], and I've never seen an email like this before from Qantas.

The good news is I can check in and have a QF PNR. The bad news is Qantas MMB doesn't let me link my FF number (the field simply isn't there, what gives?)

you get to check in you get 29E if you're lucky?

Worse.

But here's the weird part. My friend's booked on the same flight (separate PNR) and sees a completely different set of seats;

What gives?

We both refreshed the seat map at the same time, and still see different options.

Booked directly through QF or rebooked from JQ cancellation?
Also rebooked.

Anyway, I have another update. I used the RJ website to change the FF number, and it worked (nice to see that I can't put a QFF number on a QF booking using the QF website, but I can using RJ website).

Now I can see all the seats.

I helped my friend put in his QFF (Bronze) number, but it didn't reveal any more seats (although he will now get QFF points from the booking, which is good).

I just remembered this tidbit about Qantas seat selection
When booking direct with Qantas via qantas.com, the Qantas App or Qantas Contact Centres, Qantas Frequent Flyers receive complimentary standard seat selection on Qantas operated flights originating within Australia.
I guess that makes sense, this ticket wasn't booked via. Qantas, therefore my Bronze friend doesn't get free seat selection (although it didn't even offer paid seat select? And why does it just show two random seats instead of failing entirely?), whereas I do as a WP.

Finally, this ticket booked into N (Red e-Deal). This is surprising since there's only been Flexible Economy space left on this flight. I guess Jetstar might pre-allocate itself discount economy space?

I also wonder if the inability to attach a QFF number using Qantas MMB to the booking is a deliberate limitation on JQ rebookings.

Fun interactions with my friends teaching others to work around Qantas IT limitations :)

Well I'm just glad that the process did work better than advertised. Good thinking to go to rj to put in your Plat FF#

I'd say since JQ and QF are so clearly aligned they opened up the inventory to cover the affected passengers - which is a good thing. N class is probably roughly equivalent to whatever the JQ fare was (Lite or Starter or whatever they're called).

anyway good outcome! I'm glad my worry was for nothing. hooray!

Flying International FEB/MAR with QF MEL>LAX, then codeshare with AA LAX>JFK thanks to QF no longer running their cross continent daily flight. Is there any way to get upgraded seats on the codeshare flight through QF call centre or is the only chance to try your luck at AA check in LAX?
TIA

No, unfortunately not. Unless you paid for it. AA won't want to touch the codeshare issued ticket, and QF points can't upgrade codeshares like this. so.....

Thanks, I suspected as much. Booked the ticket as P/E but bass strait leg obviously cant be anything but economy, however booking clearly highlighted the AA leg was in "economy". I'll ensure I dress nice and whisper about it being my honeymoon at check in ha ha

I've had a particular CC for 3 months and received the expected Qantas ~100k bonus points for signup after the first month. Today, I've received another 100k points from this card, totally unexpected. Seems like a mistake - is that something that happens occasionally and should I expect it to be reversed? (I've been sweating on needing to earn another 10k points in Feb before my year is up, to get over the line for Points Club Plus, but this has well and truly got me over the line.)

I don't think this Q deserves its own thread, but does anyone know if special Points plane tickets (e.g. Jun 16 QF3/4) if cancelled will return to the bucket as rewards seats?

I realise this is likely a different scenario to limited promos across all fares/flights over a period which happened for domestic fares a while back.

not Westpac. Looks like I got exactly the same number of bonus points (an odd number ~100k) in Month 2 and Month 3. It'll be nice if this comes every month - that would make it a card worth hanging onto!
Ah ok, was just curious since I've seen Westpac make the double credit error before.

I would say yes. If the rules guarding the flight are for all seats on that particular flight(s) to be in U/X inventory then ys, I imagine they would return to the reward inventory for that flight.

Unless QF decided to change the rules since the points plane was announced and one presumes sold out (ie all rewards grabbed) they might potentially let normal YM rules apply but honestly, I imagine probably go back to reward inventory under the set sales rules for the flight(s) in question - ie probably have no allocations allowed for any revenue buckets to force only reward ones.

Fingers crossed while I keep checking everyday :)

I'm flying to Dubai at the end of April and I have 2 questions. I booked with Qantas, but flying with Emirates, do I go to the QF desk to book in or EK? Also, the flight departs at 6am, what time do I need to check-in? On-line never works for me.
