The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Thanks @RichardMEL ,
The good people over at FlyerTalk and here at AFF say there's no interlining from AA on separate bookings. Thought about calling QF to combine the two award bookings to one PNR but I don't want to roll the dice on the QF customer service competence and risk losing the J seats 😅

I wasn't aware that TBIT was so busy at that time, good to know! I just read an article on PointHacks regarding LAX and I feel pretty confident that we should be fine with out connection time. Looked up our SEA-LAX flight and it has a stellar record of arriving ~15min early
yeah AA won't interline on separate tickets unfortunately. Still, all should be fine for the connection. Enjoy your flights!

Anyone know why when we go to do seat selection under t-80, my GFs options are all blocked yet I can move around on the same flight?

This has happened a few times now when we booked separate PNRs. Shes currently bronze and Im SG with PC+, but we noticed this was a thing even when I was a bronze before.

I’ve seen it with two WPs travelling on seperate PNRs.

There could be shadows involved or other nuances on heavily loaded flights?

I would've thought if it was heavily loaded both of us are prevented from moving seats.

Hi All,

Can someone fill me in on why, when I search for rewards from Asia to Syd (BKK, KUL, SIN) there seems to be an invisible line of availability ending at the end of May.

As per attached, its the same story for every SE Asian city I check.

Trying to get to SE Asia via reward in J (~13/6 - ~5/7. (and then plenty of good Europe J deals out of Asian cities).

Am I missing something obvious? July availabilities not released yet?

Thanks

Your gold status is giving you more options. At T-80, not everyone is given full access to everything. As a Gold member, you get access to some seats that were previously blocked for higher status members. As a Bronze member, her options are still limited to what QF determines is available to a Bronze member.

If on the same PNR, then her seating would follow yours.

Probably the undocumented “blackout” periods. It’s similar heading in the other direction. Rewards (even in whY) fall off a cliff at the end of May. 😔

I understand that, but this has happened before when i was bronze too. The only difference is my qff has been active for 10+ years where as she only signed up a year ago.

I could see all available seats, but she could only see a handful or none at all. We book separate PNRs from time to time for CC insurance purposes as well as I tend to come in from a different route and join her (work has me elsewhere).

Very newbie question.

Anyone here booked a classic economy reward on a JQ international flight?

What's included and what's not. Not too fussed, but would prefer to not have to shell out for 20kg of bags.

At least 20kg of bags included*.

No seat nor food. Pay online at JQ. The QF website will provide a link to MMB.

*the QF ticket will say 30kg but the app and JQ seem to think it’s only 20kg.

14 to 19 June 2024 is Mecca Haji day for Muslims.
Maybe a lot of Aussies of the Muslim faith go up then, and QF needs to fill the plane.

It is "Notional Seating".

Qantas rate every passenger and increased seating selection is available for bookings having higher rateed passengers.

Is that the “revenue” based rating or something else? coughulative SCs?

SYD+1 are both WP/LTG but I have ~7k head start on LTP 😂, but we’re probably similar on revenue - depending on how far back they go - but as mentioned above, I’ve seen little anomalies on seperate tix that don’t appear to “shadows”.

I’m looking at trying to get Classic Award seats to the UK for next March/May, preferably in a premium cabin. It seems very tricky to line up available outbound and return flights at the one time, ie on the one ticket. What disadvantages are there, if any, to booking, and travelling on, separate outbound and return tickets?

You'll pay the taxes on the return in local currency but otherwise should be more or less the same.

The consensus here seems to be to book outbound as soon as you see it! Then book the return separately. The other downside is not finding a suitable return...

Thus is where PCV comes in.

That said, I ( still Plat) haven’t spent a digital cent on Qantas revenue for at least a year, although I have quite a few revenue bookings coming up, incl international. I was able to select row 4 on B737 for all legs of my current Award trip. 😊 EDIT. at T-80.

20kg is more than enough.

That's what I figured from the website but it's not as clear as I'd like it to be. Cheers for that.

Are these Domestic flights ?
Row 4/5 are blocked for P1/CL unless you do T80 to select them. I think the furthest forward for Plat is row 6. International row 4/5 isn’t blocked for Plat.
Unless things have changed very recently.

Domestic. Sorry, the sense of the conversation became a bit blurred; I was responding to elinshin and Serfty as to whether PCV influences the ability to select row 4 at T-80. My PCV must be pretty low with QF ATM, but I could still get row 4 on an Award Flight at T-80.
