The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Can Qantas classic reward seats operated by Fiji Airways be booked with a QF flight number? I assumed it could be but will only do so if booking as a revenue fare.

Why do you ask? Lounge access?

But in the meantime, @encryptededdy is correct. The QF website will change the QF flight number to FJ as soon as you select classic reward flight.

Maybe for status credits as a Points Club member.
Yes, there’s technically a requirement to be on QF “marketed flight” (ie QF flight number). No reports of FJ codes coming to the party.

Yes, access to the Sydney F lounge with my QF platinum status. As far as I understand I need to be on a QF flight number when flying on FJ to get lounge access.

That is my understanding if travelling in economy. Business on an FJ code will still get you into the QF Biz lounge. F Lounge access as QF WP is usually on QF code (economy and business).

Although I’ve seen recent things suggesting changes to Oneworld Connect lounge access policy.

The flight is for five people. Qantas says they are cancelling all tickets at midnight if they don’t have one child’s passport number. (Passport is being renewed, flight is in six months). Anyone have any hints on how to deal with this?

Where are you flying to? It’s unusual to demand full APIS at time of booking.

Perhaps an alternative is to try an online travel agent website.

Thanks. The tickets are booked and paid for but will be cancelled at midnight because one passport number is missing. They are cheap tickets

I don't know. It sounds like an agent who doesn't know what they are doing (very common) but I might not be aware of something.
In August we bought 5 award flight tickets to USA for March next year without providing any passport information as we had 3 to renew. We only started and completed the APIS info in late November.
And good luck. I just had a look at the sale prices in June next year and they are very good.

So what happened? If they were booked and paid, they should have been ticketed.

The QF website cancelling bookings at midnight is when you don’t complete the payment. Did you try to book more than once?

Can someone explain what is APIS. How does this impact a booking?
Advanced Passenger Information System - basically your identity info for entering the country you’re going to. Names, Passport, DOB.

Booking online, normally Passenger name is usually all that is required to book a flight. The rest can be done later - even at check in by scanning/swiping your passport.

Asking for a young mate as I have no idea of the possibilities & can't seem to find good, current info sources. They are a couple of Qantas NB flying out of LAX on QF12 in Y in Feb 2023. What sort of paid lounge options are there and do you think the options provide good value for money- they both drink but will have been in LA for a night so don't really need showers.

another newbie question. I haven't flown international in 10 years so am wondering about the (very specific) instructions about using a 20cm x 20cm resealable plastic bag to pack liquids in. Are they strict about only using that size specifically? Or can I use any largish ziplock bag
it's so variable... I'm slack and rarely have a ziplock and frankly more than half of the time I don't even pull my hand lotion, etc out of my bag. I know I'll jinx myself now but I haven't been pulled up on this multi-country security slackedness yet.
