The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

One for the brain’s trust - I was under the impression I could access the EK SYD lounge on the basis of QF flight (fare class U) + QF SG aside from flights to and from the Americas.
Unfortunately entry was denied as QF25 (SYD-HND) is “not part of the codeshare agreement”… so apparently it’s only QF1, QF codeshares on EK metal and other EK codeshares on QF metal that can access?

NZ flights are in play. As are South Pacific I believe. Other SE Asia flights (SIN, BKK) also.

Anyone know if there will be a QC in Paris when the direct PER-CDG flights start? Air France won't let you in their lounge unless you're gold

No - At least at this point there is no indication QF will open a QC at Paris and frankly I don't expect them to do so as. It's not really an outpost with much of a Qantas presence. LHR is a bit different as it's part of QF1/2 Kangaroo route. Plenty of partners with serviceable lounges which unfortunately means that for QC passengers it won't be able to offer anything under current rules.

Qantas Club access is very limited. For 1 fight a day QF will not open a new lounge. Even AA & BA do not have their own lounge, but use a 3rd party lounges. And QF is ff partner of AF. JL contract the use the AF lounge.
Are other lounges at CDG used by OW airlines.

Thanks for your replies re QC at CDG. Looks like we have to hope for an upgrade to business!

Hi,
Can anyone please advise me if I clear customs/immigration in MEL or PER when coming from LAX but using the 'international' leg on QF9 from MEL to PER.
Many thanks.

PER - if checked all the way through from LAX

Don't be so sure. That used to be the case in 2022 around May. Coming back from India it worked well. In Nov that year they forced me to clear customs in MEL when connecting to QF9. Apparently things changed. It was a complete schemozzle with multiple different stories and a generally unpleasant experience.

Thanks for that. Sounds like you get messed around.

I think you're correct. I've also been denied access at EK SYD for a similar reason, but I'm pretty sure the lounge staff there are just wrong. I haven't bothered trying to argue my point with them before though.

Newbie question - Trying to book SYD-LHR PE return. Trying to clarify my understanding about the SC earn. Both directions are PE SALE fare.

I used the QF SC calculator in QF website and I think I understand. But still wanted to clarify

1. If I book SYD-SIN (QF291) and then SIN-LHR (QF1), return via QF292 and QF2 - I earn 60SC for the QF291/292 leg and 80SC for the SIN-LHR (QF1/2) leg => totalling 140SC+140SC = 280SC for the whole return trip

2. If I book SYD-LHR on QF 1, which stops at SIN briefly and still continues as QF 1 (same flight number) to LHR - I earn 140SC one-way, 280SC return.

So, in terms of maximising my SC earn, in this instance, it doesn't matter if I do QF292-QF1-QF292-QF2 OR QF1-QF2 - I earn the same number of SC.

Have I got this right please?

Correct, and I'd have to assume it's intentional design to award the equal number of SCs. The only differences I can think of are
  • Can't misconnect if you take QF1/2 the whole way through
  • Taking 292 would get you 4 Qantas sectors instead of just 2 for the status requirement
  • If using lounge passes, one lounge pass required vs. two

Don't forget that QF291/292 is finair so a completely different PE seat product.

Personally think the QF a380 is probably still better.

Have you tried the AY verison on those flights? Any comments on whether a bulkhead seat is a good or bad option?
