The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Hmm I've got an MU flight later this year to PVG from MEL in business - wonder which lounge I'll be eligible to access. 🤔

I assume I won't have access to the Qantas International Business lounge.
When flying MU J you'll likely have access to QF J lounge.
I do believe pax in J get access to the QF J Dungeon er lounge via CoS in MEL.

In SYD it would be the SkyTeam lounge.

Of course check in staff should direct you appropriately.
SYD is also QF J. Had access via skyteam elite + and check-in lady asked which parent I'd like to take in before promptly writing my mums name on the lounge access card.

As a result, I then took my dad in via QF status and got them both in :)

Thankyou. Yes researching myself I agree. I'm now actually surprised there were so many QF members status & QC members that were upset at being rejected. They were all on same tripadeal tour.

I'll put it to them but I'm assuming they saw China eastern was on Qantas website and they assumed far to much.
It's mainly because of this i believe. On the China Eastern partner page this chart is displayed. Now if you don't read carefully where it says bookrd on a Qantas codeshare and just look at the table, you'd think you have access.

The better table to look at is on the lounge access page. In the final column.

I have a one-way Dom Economy Flex booking that I wish to change to an International return booking with a completely different origin/destination. Am I correct in understanding that this can only be done via the call centre?
You could in theory convert it back to flight credit then rebook yourself.

As a follow-up, is there any reason that I couldn't effectively turn this into a multi-city booking by adding on more legs to the same booking (i.e. thus adding on additional legs to the same PNR)?
If you have an itinerary that the computer deem as eligible for a return (even with additional legs as married segments) then you don't need to call. If you want to book an actual multi city, you'd need to call them.

Also just making it clear. This only applies to Qantas Club members.

Qantas status holders of Gold and above does have access (even without the QFF card number on the ticket or boarding pass). I just flashed my card and they double checked their eligibility before scanning the boarding passes.

Literally, asking for a friend here....

She is travelling with two children on a single booking. If she has three lounge passes, does each child need to have their own QFF account and one pass per pax? Or can the one pax (the mother) have all three and link the three passes in the booking without needing to sign up the kids?
As long as they're all on the one booking, one pax can link for everyone on the booking without having to sign up the kids.

Thankyou, I suspected they would upon check-in, but it would just be nice to also know which one I might be eligible to go into before then too :)

I've been to the QF International Business Lounge, Centurion Lounge and The House by Aspire in MEL - all are pretty average tbh. Even the QF Domestic Lounge in T1 is better than all of them!

Would this retain the same PNR? It’s a DSC booking, so obviously don’t want that to be “self-enhanced” by losing the PNR 😜
It should (and yes i guessed as much, might've gotten faster response in the DSC thread 😄

Also as a note, I believe the MU flight from MEL is usually serviced by FM so don't get too confused by the livery. They're the same company now.

Thankyou very much @elanshin , I very much appreciate you taking the time & providing a definitive answer for me.

Yep thankyou, I have already noted this.

The 787-9 seating layout is pretty much the same.

Bit of a random one, Mrs Goosh has not received her SC for flights to USA. Booked in Economy Flex. Part of her flights are coming up as Classic Flight Rewards, which is strange as all flights were on the one booking and all paid for.

MEL - SYD - received 0 SC (Classic Flight Reward) - expected 20SC + 20 DSC
SYD - LAX - received 90 SC (+90 DSC)
LAX - PDX - received 0 SC (Classic Flight Reward) - expected 30 SC

When putting in a claim for the SC, it has been denied as "Unsuccessful - duplicate claim".
We have only put in one claim, so not sure why it is a duplicate.

I also was on the same flights, and got all my points as expected.

Has this happened to anyone? Currently in the USA so plan to call at a more suitable hour and try get this figured out.

Is Mrs Goosh in points club? If not, won't receive SC and in any case the lax-pdx won't earn, if it is a classic reward, whether in points club or not.

But you receiving 20sc for mel-syd suggests it's not a classic reward (unless booked separately)

Does her ff statement have any entries for the flight, with 0 SC?

The thing is, no flights were Classic Rewards.

They are all paid for (Economy Flex), and we have the receipts for the payments.

We just booked on separate bookings (DSC), and mine came through, and hers came up as Classic Reward flights.

Had family travel on China eastern.
Was Aus to China. Was not a code shared flight. MU metal
QF club member plus other LTG members refused lounge entry in melb. Was quite a scene I'm told. Rules are rules, but family member called the QF hotline day before to confirm lounge entry among other things and was confirmed.

We assumed One World worked simple lounge entry to eligible no doubt, not to be. Really baffled, reading T&Cs.
What did they ask? *Exactly* to the word. (But will not know that now)
If they said they were flying "MU marketed(flight number) - MU operated" may get 1 answer
Saying "flying MU and are QF life time gold" could get a different answer.
Too easy to think they mean some thing and the QF person on the phone interpret it differently. However well know some/many (new) QF agents are poor and QF (and many airlines) are imprecise on the full details.
[My background as a technical Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager I always work on precise detailed full data and independent verifiable facts)

Or even "We're flying MU on a Qantas ticket" - which is open to interpretation

of course, the customer shouldn't need to know the minutae of the access rules when asking and properly trained staff should know to clarify the situation to give an accurate answer.

In some ways this is a situation QF have created with such complex rules. Now I understand WHY (who is getting the revenue here) and all, but that isn't the customer's issue. Either "Is this booked with a QF flight number?" and then know to advise correctly is the key. sure, it's probably not the norm of requests theybreceive, and requires understanding how these partnerships work, but that is part of good training imo.

Can we upgrade OWA J tickets to F on a specific sector? Or is OWA/CR business not able to upgrade to F?

Oh sorry, misread your post completely. That's very strange. What booking class appears in manage my booking?

Hello. Silly noob clarification please.

Qualification (& requal) for P1 is 3600 SC of which atleast 2700SC on QF marketed flights.

Marketed means flight could be on other airline metal, but marketed/sold as a QF flight number. So a flight on AA metal BOS-LAS sold as QFxx_x count towards the 2700SC - correct?
