The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Did you log in and check your account on the qantas points club page of the desktop site?

Sometimes it just appears there as a pop up with the code and the email is either lost or a bit late.
My Hotel voucher didn't show up on my Points page as before, but I did get a discount code by email. When I booked a hotel a couple of weeks ago, I used that code and the $100 credit was applied then. Something with IT again?

My brother has booked tickets CDG-MEL with AF codesharing with QF. On the QF flights (AF numbers) he is able to MMB and select seats on the QF site but he cannot specifically select a vegetarian meal. I have logged onto his booking page and his profile shows that his preference is set to V but he says when he's flown previously with other carriers that this does not actually guarantee a V meal is delivered to him onboard.

Has anyone got experience with this and can confirm either a) that it's sufficient or b) if there's a way to specify the meal request on each leg.

Just wondering what my options are here please.

J QF revenue flights in 9 weeks.
Email today advising of change and new e-ticket issued.

1st leg MEL-SIN-USM still good, flight change is USM-SIN now in Y
Looks like Bangkok Airways change of aircraft A319 - no J class.
Only other flight that day doesn't meet MCT for our onward SIN-MEL flight.

Q1. Should we be eligible for any $ refund for downgrade? (think it would be minimal).
Q2. USM-SIN leg is QF flight # , would earn 40 SC in J, can we claim ORC?
Q3. Is it worth calling?

I know flight is less than 2 hours so can deal with that but it's the SC and any $ difference.
Thanks for any input.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

With QFF SG, you would get their (QFFs) overseas call center, who could b*lls it up.
If I were you, I would just do a retro ORC claim.
Who knows where this will be processed, if still overseas even if you email the QFFs service centre, mayb the processing of it might be in Aus, we can only hope.
If all QF and QFF calls are answered in Aus, I would say, call up prior to trip, but with things as they are, maybe best to leave things alone.

Update:
Did some random flight searches for August, September and October and all the early afternoon flights are now Y only and some of the late afternoon flights are also.

Called Sydney Bangkok Airways number and she confirmed our flight # ex USM is all economy now and it may be all flights are going that way (they are from BKK-USM)

So decided not worth even trying to call QF at present to change, as I half expect our SIN-USM will get downgraded also 😒

She did say, we should get a refund from Qantas - we wait patiently...

whats the on board wi-fi like? is it fast enough for streaming? I'm flying PER - BNE on the 5th and would like to steam the BBC election coverage whilst in the air

Yes it will be fine for that if it's working to the ysual standard.

I have streamed footy and other things in the past.

Btw Labour win. Starmer as PM. That's not a spoiler :)

What’s the most effective way to contact QF (ideally HBA) when overseas. Specifically from Indonesia in my case.*

QF44’s gone back to the gate.

Left engine cowling is open and I’m looking for options not to join a very long queue on the ground if the flight goes tech.

Edit 1: captain PA “The issue is the left engine. The engineers have found a fuel leak. We’ll keep you updated.” It’s going to be a long night.

Edit 2: Cancelled. Part required from either SG or AU.

*I realise HBA is closed at the time of my post, but just in case it’s drags on a bit.

Sadly, talking to Hobart with reasonable assurance these days is the province of WP1s.

Assuming you don't wish to discover the art of wi-fi calling or some such, can you not just open 'roaming' on your Oz telco SIM & phone? If Telstra, it'll cost you $10.

But hopefully you are sorted by now.

Thanks.

In the end a new flight appeared in the App before I could reach QF.

It’s JQ and not the option I would have requested, but the girls just want to get home now.

QF’s service recovery for WP was very poor, and it was even worse for the pax in Y but that’s a story for another thread, assuming it’s not already in the media.

Are you on a 321 neo now?

How long was the eventual delay @Captain Halliday ?
Hope you got some accommodation.
Safe travels home ✈

Rather than hijack this thread I’ll post the full story when I’ve had more than 90 mins sleep. But to answer your Q’s:

Are you on a 321 neo now?
It appears so. I’m sitting aft of row 30. ☹️

How long was the eventual delay @Captain Halliday ?
Depends how you define “delay”. From scheduled departure time to the official cancellation was around 2 hours.

Hope you got some accommodation.
For WP and J pax (I was both in this case) it took another 90 mins or so to organise.

Then on arrival at hotel were told QF hadn’t paid for the rooms so we had to pay.

By Bali standards almost $400 for the night is a rort.

If I’d known it would be such a farce I would have organised my own.
