The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

We have the new scanners in SYDd for a bit longer, the only time my bag has been sent for secondary screening was when I had a power bank inside (never had an issue with any liquids or laptop or tablets).

However, the scanners at SYD (no where else) seem to discriminate those with large busts flagging a pat down of that area that hasnt happened with same type of the scanner at SYDi, BNEd or anywhere international.

Errr… you can add a tyre around the waist to that too! lol. Only in Sydney!

Just curious, is there any way to upgrade an EK J award (from QFF) to F besides the hope that EK releases more F seats?

Except when the AI bot is so sensitive that 2 out of 3 bags are sent for a secondary check.
...and the rushed security staff don't listen to you when you tell them that there's something fragile inside and just snatch the bag from you and open it up the wrong way (i.e. in such a manner that said fragile items are imperilled). I was ready to give them a piece of my mind before I thought better of making a scene in front of Border Force / AFP.

On August 20 I used the dom->int check in counters at MEL. They were at the far end of the check-in area as described by @Flyfrequently above.

Have they been closed/moved/demolished since then?
I also used these international connection desks at MEL T1 on Aug 20...I seriously doubt they have been shut down since then. They are certainly hard to spot due to all the building works but are definitely still there.

Trying to add qff numbers on EK website to a booking but getting the message “The frequent flyer number you entered is incorrect. Please check and try again.” The qff number is accepted when entering the number on the qf side (EK code on QF metal). Any thoughts on remedy?

Older qff numbers may require zeroes prepended to make them to a certain length perhaps?

Is there an alternate way to seat select if QF MMB isn't sticking? (Besides calling them).

Rj, cx, ba all doesn't seem to work

I have some 'General' Lounge passes that "can be used at any Qantas Club domestic lounge, Qantas International Lounge or Qantas operated International Business Lounge (excluding Los Angeles Tom Bradley Terminal) when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number."

RAR doesn't have a QF Lounge, so I'm guessing there's no option to use these when departing on JQ from RAR?

If we have a long time (read: many hours) between an international arrival and a domestic departure at SYD, could we check into the International Biz lounge before migrating over to the domestic terminal for our flight to MEL? Or can we only use these at the QF Club in the QF domestic terminal?

Likewise, we will be departing on a JQ flight from AKL - RAR. Could we use a 'general' lounge pass at AKL?

If the bookings are in your QFF account, does it let you attach them to the flight departing from SYD?

The SYD Intl J lounge is after immigration, which you won't be allowed through to without a valid international boarding pass. SYD QP for you

AKL: On the QFF page there is a separate form to attach the pass to a JQ booking. I don't see an issue on using the pass for a JQ flight?

Correct - no lounge access here.

Only the domestic Club - you would need to re-enter international departure area to get to international business lounge, which would not be permitted without an onward intl flight.

Yes.

Got it, thanks. So SYD QF Room and AKL QF Room might suit.
As long as QF will let you link the pass to those flights, yes. Sometimes they close off access during peak travel periods due to high demand, so just keep an eye out for that - but if it lets you link, you're good to go.

Suggest you download the LoungeBuddy App and put in which memberships, Ccs etc you have etc and your flight details and it will give you most of the access info you require. Not always perfect but right most of the time.
Tell me about the LoungeBuddy App. In App Store I can see a few lounge apps and an airport buddy app but not LoungeBuddy???

Well, I hadn’t noticed until just now…

Ok so I found out Amex bought out Loungebuddy some time ago and decided to kill it entirely Jul 1, 24

There is a start up alternative I have not tried called Loungereview.com

Lounge review has been around for a while, sadly it's not quite up to date with the VA Lounge Brisbane still listing Delta as an access option.

LoungeBuddy suffered from this as well, once Amex bought it they stopped updating it as frequently.

Not sure if it fits here. I have some Qantas Hotels vouchers. If I book Qantas Hotels using the voucher, and then later I had to cancel my booking, will I get the value of the vouchers back?
