Ok newbie to silver
I was just checking the benefits and it states I use business check in ?
My understanding was premium economy if available and if not it would be business
. It was the same benefit as for gold
(Yes slowly crying here as now LTS )

Definitely Business check-in counter where available.

Seeing as QF wants you to fly on QF metal or codeshare (lest you be punished with less or no SCs), does anyone have a rough list of where QF codeshares to, or have any interesting codeshare routes?
For example:
  • CX between PER and HKG (PE only? Guessing some of the info on QF's website about QF codeshares on CX flights from HKG to other parts of Asia are out of date too)
  • JL between SIN and HND
  • EK's A380 fifth freedom route between SYD and CHC (shame MEL-SIN is ending)
  • LY between TLV and BKK/NRT
 
Is it possible to book a married segment CR flight (non QF) then cancel the first leg?

In this case MH - JL (KUL - SIN - HND) but on its own SIN - HND doesn't show up.
 
Ok so I am looking to fly back to Sydney via LAX on QF12 on Saturday. Obviously there's no Business seats available to book using points. I can only see availability on economy for 41900 Qantas points.

If I book the two economy seats with points for me and my wife and then apply for an upgrade to business using points again, what are my chances of getting an upgrade to business given this flight is on an A380? Obviously I have enough points available to fo this but I want to make sure I can get a busines seat as I want to sleep well as I have to work on Monday when I arrive 😆

FYI I am on Bronze.
 
There's actually a thread exactly for finding out if there's upgrade space left:

For your flight there seems to be quite good availability (at least 9 seats still available). While you are always going to be at a disadvantage compared anybody who isn't bronze, I wouldn't lose hope yet

When does Qantas approve/reject these request for upgrade? I already have a booking on Premiun Economy with AA for the same day, but I am planning to book economy and apply for the upgrade and/or cancel either of the flights on the same say. I guess Qantas allows cancellation of classic reward tickets before departure, right?

Unofficially, you'll get an idea by going through the below thread. In my experience (as a P1), my upgrades have consistently come through 27 hours before the scheduled flight departure.

Not sure how useful this thread might prove to be, but I've been using the notes field in the AFF Flight Tracker to record JASAs, upgrades and op-ups. The purpose of this thread is to provide some analysis on the QF upgrades that I have requested.

Since July 2010, which is when my QF flying started, I've applied for 18 upgrades for myself and 2 for a family member for a total of 20.


  • 100% of them have come through.
  • 8 were international.
  • 12 were domestic.

  • 1 was W to J.

  • 1 was Y to W.

  • 18 were Y to J.

Interested to hear of others hit...

Sorrry for the newbie question but what does WP stands for? I've seen many comments from users being successfully upgraded as 'WP'. Thanks.
 
So this is what I'm planning to do to snag two business class seats using QFF points. I'm a humble Bronze passenger.

I'm flying back to Sydney via LAX from my South American holiday and I booked 2x classic reward premium economy seats on AA73. AA73 departs at 22:40

I also want to book 2x economy classic reward seats in QF12 which departs at 21:20 to be able to apply for 2x business class upgrade using points.

If I get approved for this upgrade on QF12 and notified in advance, I hope to be able to cancel my booking on AA73. However, if my upgrade is not approved on QF12, then I will cancel the 2x economy seats on QF12 on time and fly on AA73 on premium economy.

How does it sound? Any better ideas? I know is risky and I'm hoping Qantas allows classic rewards booking to be cancelled prior departure. I'm also aware of the cancellation fee. Hope it's worth the risk but any comments would be appreciated.

Changes
  • Up to 24 hours before departure of the first flight segment on your ticket, you can change the date and time, class of travel or cancel your booking. These changes can be made on qantas.com at Manage booking.
  • Within 24 hours of your Classic Flight Reward booking departing, you can change date and time, or cancel your booking, by calling your local Qantas office.

    ....best to workout which Qanats location(s) you can call.
