The Qantas Singapore Lounge

Given I do the SIN trip monthly I would disagree with the concept that the loads are struggling, in fact all my flights have been J0 which would not be possible if the plane was full of cheap fares. Singapore also has 3K for connections as far as QF goes, the move to partner with EK came after the decision to renovate the SIN lounge so things were already being worked on. I would imagine loads would be significantly lower if the premium passengers were faced with the lounge options that existed before the new one opened.

J0 again today, not bad for a Sunday in the middle of a long weekend, Y is 70% allocated at this stage.

Hi Markis

What is the situation with loadings out of other ports such as Brisbane and Melbourne?

I am not convinced that the load factors are similiar to the QF5 Bearing in mind that this is a 747 service

First time I have taken 5, 81 was J0 this morning and had been that way for weeks, I have seen 51 and 52 as well as 82 all J0 in the last few months on my flights. Today 5 is OJC which is 56J 40 PE, with only three PE seats left.

I flew SIN-MEL last week and was monitoring loadings for days either side of it, J was regularly J0 including on my flight.
Y looked to be at 85% full with scattered spare seats.

Can't fault the new lounge, fresh food, plenty of variety drinks, great service thruout, nice decore, probably the only downside to lounge would be the open ceiling imop.

When were you there? There was an informal SIN DO last night as I ran into FIFI and FIFA+1, they are probably still shocked I was not seen with a wine glass in my hand as I was not feeling well (not sure if it was the inflight pizza snack which does not agree with me or the very average flight on OJC which should be in the desert , half flight no IFE), regardless it was wonderful to see them :).

Will have to try the meals tonight to see the difference from last visit, think I will skip lunch in anticipation.

Just on loadings as well, on boarding I saw a number of people with BA Boarding passes, AY Boarding passes, 9W boarding passes, so it seems their codeshare sales are still good.

You would've seen me there with a MH boarding pass for QF6 last Friday might. Completely full J class too.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed the service. Hope to see you again soon. :)

Great to catch up with you again markis10 :D.
Meeting up with AFFers certainly adds to the enjoyment of travel.
Hope you enjoyed dinner last night.

out of curiosity how do you get served the niel perry meals that are on the place mats? we were sitting at the middle tables towards where the showers are but no order was offered and staff werent that attentive so wasnt sure if i had missed the serving times etc because we came in late (about 9pm)

I was sitting at the side and asked a waiter if I should order at the counter or with him.
He said he was happy to take my meal order :).

As FIFA says just flag a waiter. Took me a while so I just had a brûlée starter or two

haha, It was good to see you again markis10.

Monday night was something of an unofficial AFF meet up. I met a member of the Facebook page, then had a beer with markis10, then caught up with Brettmcg for some vino and a snack after you boarded.

I have mixed feelings about this lounge. It goes without saying that this is an improvement on the previous facility, and the temporary arrangements, but I think it could be better.

Layout / Ambiance:
I like the layout. Given the space is a strange shape, it easily lends itself to zoning. I know that many passengers will enjoy the semi-quiet area. The result is that the restaurant and bar feel like a food court. The acoustics certainly do not help in this regard. It did feel a little crowded, even though it wasn't. This might just be the layout, or perhaps the noise / acoustics.

I haven't been alone in this lounge yet, but I do like the idea of sitting at the counter / bar and watching the chefs cooking.

The look and feel is definitely Qantas. I don't mind the 'modern' touches around the place.

Food:
The food I tasted was good. I tried both of the dishes listed in the photo above and both were good. My braised chicken was a little heavy on the liquid / water, but my guest's looked (and tasted) far superior.

The service style of the restaurant is a bit confusing, although it reminds me of Island dining in Australia - Ask politely and you shall receive... The problem is that many people (especially Australians) are conservative and quiet people, so they don't realise that it is normal / expected to ask for service in this context.

I didn't try any of the buffet options.

Bar:
As a Champagne drinker, the lack of real bubbles was disappointing. I know that this lounge is closer to a business lounge (rather than a first lounge), but Champagne would have been nice! As others have posted, a quick sojourn to the EK lounge will quell one's cravings.

The trade off is that the remainder of the wine list (mostly/all? Australian) was quite good. A little cheap (more economy/business than first), but a quietly capable list. The matching of the wine to the food was good. The softening influence of the Merlot in the Cab Merlot made this a good match for the Braised Chicken, even if one would normally lean towards white with chicken.

All the whites were available for self-pour at the table, and a hotch potch of other reds, but I had to go to the bar to try the matched red. I assume this was simply an oversight on the day, rather than policy?

Amenities:
I haven't used the showers here, as I usually showered immediately before going to Changi, but if I pass through on transit soon, I will check them out.

On Monday (10 JUN), 3 out of 6 gents toilets were out of order. The 3 operational cubicles seemed to cope with demand, but it isn't a good look to be 50% out of order.

Service:
I haven't had any need to engage the staff at length, but they were friendly enough, and seemed happy to welcome guests into their lounge.

I found the restaurant staff to be okay. There weren't any problems, just a lack of polish.

Overall, I enjoyed the new lounge. It has potential; with a little more polish and some Champagne it could be a great lounge.

As an aside... Unfortunately I did not enjoy the options to travel between Australia and Singapore on QF (old Skybed Mk 1, PE ex-SYD, or Economy). This is particularly hard for me, as I struggle to sleep without a fully flat bed, so I barely slept 20 minutes on my flight from Singapore back to Australia on Monday night. The coughpy hard product is compounded by the lack of flights from Singapore to Australia during the day (when I don't mind flying the coughpy hard product). On Monday my experience was made even worse by a very average crew. Suffice to say my next trip is on SQ.

Thank you for sharing your first hand account. I'll ensure your comments and suggestions are passed on the team for their reference. Cheers. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the new QF Singapore lounge for myself in August. I might even forget about asking for late checkout at the hotel as I usually do, and instead just head for the lounge when it opens.
