The smok'n trip to Bali

Uber to the city from Brisbane International, which was a breeze to get through. I think I was 20 minutes from deplaning to be outside the terminal. Holiday inn express - arrived at about 11 pm - and I discovered the total lack of value of platinum status on IHG. I started a thread under IHG called how rooms are allocated which discusses my experience. Got exactly the room I repeatedly asked not to get ( next to elevator).

A day in Brisbane, seeing family up here and taking my 70-year-old sister who is mainly wheelchair-bound these days, shopping. No further comment on that one, but … 😱🫣.

Also, a coffee with @boomy swapping some travel stories.

Currently in the VA Lounge in Brisbane waiting to fly to Sydney and then on to Hobart, Economy X on points; hopefully will be okay

At first, I thought they were nicely crafted little choccies. But no, they were real rocks 😕.

I’m Tasmanian - anywhere warm calls for a swim 😎. Togs = swimming gear, right? I’d hate to get into a ‘thong’ type misunderstanding 🤦‍♂️😱
Until earlier this year, I'd only heard other Queenslanders say togs. If you packed your togs in your port, along with your peanut paste sandwich, they were all markers you were a Queenslander. ;)

I thought all the other states used terms like bathers, cossie, and swimmers. I was wrong!

No togs in SA - it's bathers

Thi is exactly what QLD born and bred Mr Seat 0A says, to much hilarity from the Seat Children and me. We delight in showing him the peanut butter jar EVERY time he says this! We also laugh when he wants to store the Vegemite in the fridge.

Before we come to blows about the various names for bathers around the country, to conclude the TR.

VA flights completely unexceptional (that's good) - 3C, EconomyX on both legs, very comfortable.

I whiled the flights home DPS-BNE-xSYD-HBA by watching all the episodes of Bodies on Netflix. Highly recommended! Sort of Dr Who meets Sherlock Holmes.

Got to Hobart airport, called an Uber and was annoyed when the guy went to the wrong place. Messaged him etc and in a few mins he drove up. Turns out that dear Hobart Airport has 'temporarily' moved the Rideshare pick-up point, haven't they?

So - to conclude.

Bali. Well, I didn't really see Bali did I? Certainly not the one most tourists see. The resort was nice, and gave exactly what I wanted and my friends, who did a bit more exploring, were happy too. I must admit, I felt the cold coming back to Hobart!! I don't feel any attraction at all to go back, but if someone pointed out an excellent airfare and beach resort deal, I might look at it.

Thanks for following along. About 6 weeks till I fly to Chile before the Antarctic cruise. It'll be a tense time, avoiding disasters until I walk on board.

And to think I've spent the entire thread trying to avoid that anthem ....
Thanks, @RooFlyer, for taking us along, enjoyed your TR, I'm glad you had a relaxing time 🏖

Bali is a favourite our ours, mostly for many holidays with the Flyfrequently offspring when they were younger.

Must admit I was impressed (ok, a tad sentimental/ emotional) with their recollections when they shared stories of their fond memories last year when we "went back" for their 40th birthday celebrations.
Never imagined we would holiday as 3 generations but was very special - especially when we all went down like dominoes with _ _ _ _ _ !!
Now that's a memory 😷

Interesting, but circling back to #19

In general is Bali an "Oldies" destination?
I didn’t see what many would call typical Bali, which is the resorts around Denpasar, so couldn’t properly say. But looking at the aircraft passengers to and from I’d say the demographic is very mixed but with probably a strong bias towards under 40s.
