The smok'n trip to Bali

I didn’t see what many would call typical Bali, which is the resorts around Denpasar, so couldn’t properly say. But looking at the aircraft passengers to and from I’d say the demographic is very mixed but with probably a strong bias towards under 40s.
Thanks Roo - I enjoyed reading your report and perspective of ‘someone in my demographic’.

I will ‘fess up as have never been to Bali in all my travels — so many other places I want to see in preference
….. overseas beach holidays are never a priority (only reason being I have always had access to the best in the world here so its low on my list of travel when making a decision); that said, I am not discounting the cultural aspects of visiting Bali
— there are so many places and only a finite amount of time.!
YMMV

My attitude exactly.

Bali is simply the place you go to when you are in the midst of a harsh winter and want to escape quickly to reliable warmth, beach and sun. It isn't expensive to take the family out to meals. The Balinese people are wonderful. As simple as that. The first few trips we did a lot of the cultural activities. Visited temples and toured to Ubud and Kintamani. Mt Agung. Uluawatu. Daydream Beach. The Gillis off Lombok. Lebongan. Some wonderful family holidays that didn't break the bank. And much cheaper than equivalents in FNQ

Just "saw" this thread... (read that as: I as just logged into AFF for the first time in ages).

Dinner with 11 other AFFers tonight. Penegal was, of course, a late appearance.

I was actually "early" as I wasn't originally going to be in Adelaide in time for dinner. Qantas were kind enough to allow me to "fly ahead" on an earlier service which meant I could attend dinner.

it was a tough gig! Our bus arrived at 5 pm, and we decanted ourselves onto it, and had a rapid trip back to the city, where several had a plane to catch that evening. How did you go. @penegal ?

Yes, I did make my flight. However, it was certainly a much tighter connection than one would normally be comfortable with.

The bus arrived at Rockford the wrong side of 5:00pm, and it was getting towards quarter past before we were actually underway.

By the time we arrived in the CBD and I had retrieved my bag from the luggage counter in the Adelaide Hilton, my departure from the Hilton was dangerously close to my "boarding time". Fortunately the Uber trip from the Adelaide Hilton to the airport was fast and efficient, and my flight was delayed ever so slightly.

Also mine, never had much of an interest to go there, what was done previously in East Timor and currently in West Papua does not sit well with me.
Also the practice of transmigrasi is also an issue, but (almost) everyone has a price and I’ll admit to being a sellout and a hypocrite. :(

You’re not alone as a hypocrite. I plead guilty.
Will be back there in March next year for 3 days before our next cruise. Don’t plan on leaving the resort.

We rarely leave the IC. One time I thought I'd check out Kuta again so took a bluebird. Arrived. Spent 30 minutes looking around asking myself why the heck I did that. Caught a bluebird back. Hopefully you get the Club. Much preferred the breakfasts there this time. Less choice but not frantic.

I will reach 40 nights this year so I can choose club access for 12 months. So
I have no worries.

The evening coughtails are fabulous. We didn't try afternoon tea this time but it looked good. Canapés ok, not as good as pre covid but the cheese platter was good.

I could never tolerate being cooped up in the one resort for days on end - the beauty of Double 6 on the beach at border Legian and Seminyak is you can isolate inhouse as much as you want or walk out the door and be in thick of shopping / bars / restaurants whatever - or walk out back door and you are on the beach - and best view in Bali!👍

I’m very much like you, I think in this regard - I like getting out and doing things. However, there were several factors in play on this particular trip and I had to cool my jets for a couple of days.

Maybe try IC. So many pools we couldn't count them. One is exclusive to the Club and adults. Gorgeous gardens, ponds and so on. You could spend a day at each pool and not repeat one in a week. Down the beach are the beach bbq's. On the street many restaurants.

Sitting around pools? What do you do after the first hour?
Swim. Walk. Explore. Converse with people. Eat. Read. We used to be active in Bali but reckon after maybe 15 trips we've probably covered the main necessary activities like River Rafting, Snorkelling in the Gillis, walking on the border of the volcano, surf at Daydream, explore Uluwatu, Ubud, Lombok, Waterbom Park....
