This computer is going to drive me nuts.

I get notification the other day to install Ares 2.2.7 so stupid me clicks on the balloon and it starts installing and I cannot stop it. I have no control over what is installed, where it is installing. Why?

Just then I get install skype 6.14.0.104 and I clicked on balloon to turn it off but it starts installing and again I have no control what is installed or where it is being installed.

What the hell is going on? I don't have either of these products on my laptop. What is recommending me to install them and why? I cannot easily remove them as they are not in the list of programs installed. :( I have turned off automatic updates. Win XP and Vista on other laptops was not this difficult. :(

If I didn't think it was completely far fetched, I'd guess that maybe you have some sort of malware which installs junk, pretty much using up resources and not letting you do too much else. I'm surprised you don't have one of those more nefarious ones which start to block out key system applications like regedit, taskman and msconfig.

It's times like these now it's easier to diagnose the problem if it is seen rather than described. But the short diagnosis I can give is possibly a backup, wipe, format and reinstall.

This evening I delghted in cuddling my new nephew, who joined us just this morning. He is a delight (already! He can't object to cuddles!! ;) )

And I come home to see a message on FB that a friend's life support will be turned off. She had breast cancer, but had successful surgery & was going through chemo. She travelled a few weeks ago, and either due to the travel or something else, seems to have caught pneumonia or another infection. This has affected her organs, her brain, and her family is now following her wishes and turning off the life support.

I totally understand and respect that decision, as it's absolutely her preference. BUT it's such a stark contrast in a day.
The circle of life.
In every season, turn, turn, turn.
And so on, and so on.

It's all so fleeting, eh?

You are probably right.

Now please tell me why Malwarebytes has not picked up this rogue malware?

I have nothing important on this machine. I have lost all my data from 2-3 laptops and the only backup I have is from October 2013 which is on a HDD from the Vista laptop.

A friend from work has a copy of Win XP so perhaps time to reformat but that takes time.

Why Malwarebytes hasn't picked it up? Not sure, it could be many things; in fact, I have no idea what the problem really is - I'm just guessing. If it's a virus rather than malware, Malwarebytes won't pick it up (AVG should, but then again it may not either).

Without having a look at the system myself, all I can say is - backup, wipe, reinstall. Besides, given the amount of file mess there is already, you might be better off reinstalling anyway. And the next time you're installing stuff, be a lot more discriminating - co-installs can be a pain.

What do we all think of the makeup-less selfies for cancer meme that women are currently spreading on FB?

It's a lot more tasteful than the Testicular Cancer fundraiser  :!:

OK so I'm a bit late with the names but what about Roger Rogerson and Leigh Leigh who sadly was a Newcastle murder victim.

I briefly lived in a country town with the proudly emblazoned in big blue letters ; "Brian Brain Ford"
I always wondered did his parents really do it to him but was never game to ask.
