The totally off-topic thread

Perhaps I am old and cynical, but I think the rush for everyone to go to university is rather ironic when assignments and exam papers are full of basic spelling & grammar, or arithmetic mistakes.

Geez Maate, uare gettinn ould and synical

Whenever you buy something with cash you should always check your change as the cashier may not be able to handle the basic math required to count out your change. But of course they are qualified to tweet about it...

< / cynic >

The number of times I've got a funny look when I've bought something costing say $7.30, slipped them a tenner and $2.30 in coins.... sigh.

Correct, but the end prize is $2k a day 2 weeks on and 1 week off (Between $250k & $350k per annum...!)

Very few earn that in south Australia.

I need to to find an average job to replace the below average one I have now

Someone has to earn below the average. otherwise it wouldn't be an average. ;)

I might also be getting confused with the median.

I must be the most underpaid person in Australia :(
I'll take you up on that one. Being in a small business, what I earn has halved since the heady days of 2007. After I give 50% of my generated revenue to the business for the expenses, I then pay my MTR to the Govt and take home the balance.

Thankfully, the value of the business has grown over time, but that doesn't satisfy my wife - only the net amount that hits our bank account.

Sounds familiar; I finally made a profit last year.

This is not supposed to offend, so I am sorry if it does... but that sounds like rather dubious grounds to keep you in the organisation!

I have no idea who you work for, but you'd think that the recruitment people could do a better job finding people who are suited for the role who can write decent reports.

You would think so....

Mean, median and mode are all different* :p

* Although in some data sets they may be the same

Very good. I think I was possibly trying to say i might have quoted the number that is the median and called it the average. ;)

When my ex-boss was initially selling his business, he had to ask some recruitment agency what amount he should be getting paid, for the transitional time (3 years), the multinational needed him to handover his business. He proudly told the person he only paid himself what he required to draw from the business, but needed to know what he should be getting. I thought he was probably only paying himself 40-50k and reinvesting the money into the company.

My opinion of him changed, when I accidentally found a document on the server, where it stated his base was 102k a year. This document was dated 2002.

I did mean to say I will miss most of the delays.

Choose your words carefully?

Make sure you choose your flights carefully as you could well be waiting for the delayed flight I am on. ;) Unless you're flying JQ.

IIRC secondary tech schools were a product of the Victorian system only in terms of being more prevalent than the odd one in the capital city, pretty sure they didnt exist elsewhere and that was the purpose of TAFE to train trades post secondary?

You might be surprised to learn most of the SEC trained electricians from the mid to late eighties no longer practice their trade and have not done so since the nineties, having grown up in the Latrobe Valley I know a few.

Lots of apprenticeships in differing fields went through there, my FIL did fitting/turning there and now works in Oil&Gas in BNE. Tell's me he'll never move back because it's too cold! :D

OT to the JQ 787 thread where I mentioned the plane callsign VKG reminds me of the NSW Police radio callsign of VKG, I applied to work
at VKG in 1997. I didn't get past the interview.

A year later, I was working in the railway version of VKG (VRW, from memory the full callsign was VL2RW). Every so often, I'd have VKG operators ask me when was I coming over to work with them.

That never happened as I went into train crewing in 2001 but I did go into the local RFS version in 2003.

I thought vkg was Victoria based on cop shop.

Vicpol is VKC:

# Federal Police VKX
# South Australia VKA
# New South Wales VKG
# Western Australia VKI
# Victoria VKC
# Tasmania VKT
# Queensland VKR
# Northern Territory VKM

VKA was the name for the SAPol Comms operators. It was changed when the encrypted government radio network was rolled out.

There you go. Vkc! So much for my memory of a 35 year [-]Grundy[/-] Crawford drama series. Still I'm sure my memory of Paula Duncan is still correct.
