Fremantle Dockers plane has gone tech tonight and the curfew in Sydney applies so they will have to fly tomorrow.
Yep just heard cove and just posted in the AFL Footy thread - I cannot believe the ineptitude of both AFL and VU re this matter - has the potential to totally dis rail Freo's tilt this year. yeah yeah I know - it's a big continent and cough can happen . But are you seriously going to suggest that in 2014 this can still happen. Would love to hear the complete story.

A spokeswoman for Virgin Australia said there was an operational issue had been identified with the plane.

The Thursday 10am flight to Sydney was surprisingly good and I was on that VA flight. Too bad the Dockers were on a later flight as the margin for the 11 PM curfew became the issue once the plane had a technical issue.

Thought about putting this in the humour thread, but to some people it isn't funny, it may even have been posted before, if so, sorry:

I can read it. There is a grammatical error or missing word in that text. ;).

On a similar note but a little sadder, my mother had a right side stroke 5 weeks ago (left side brain issue) which those medicoes here will know effects her speech. Sometimes she talks just like this but I understand what she is saying. It's rather weird.

And on this note she is on warfarin. It's akin to rat poison. She's already had a major bleed with it as they'd also put her on warfarin. That seems to have stabilised now. But the coughtail of drugs she is now on is staggering. She'd had a heart attack just prior to the stroke (within the hour). She's 86 and I just wonder. I think she copes with it all better than me.

I can read it no problem. As I read it I don't even notice that the letters are mixed up.

Sorry to hear about your mum. Here's hoping for speedy recovery.

We went through this late last year, communication difficult, although you do manage to understand often. Mum had no trouble showing her delight when her granddaughter arrived, or communicating when she was in pain. It is very awkward when you have one sided conversations, but there are always things that need to be said.

Sadly Mum did not recover, because she could neither eat nor speak. The lack of recovery was partly attributed to how long after the stroke she was found, preventing some of the treatments available when patients arrive at hospital in the first few hours. It was also 2 years after she lost Dad, and I think there was an absence of the internal desire to recover. We are glad now that we took the time in the weeks following the stroke to say all those important things at her bed side.

Thankyou everyone for your wishes. The stroke occurred in the last week I was in Europe. We had the "discussion" with family about how to inform family members should this situation arise while we were all travelling, of course not thinking it would actually happen. My Bro and SIL were in Europe the month before me so we had laid out the rules of communication about what to do. We all live in the same state and see Mum frequently so there was no "unfinished business". At the time we were in Santorini so rather isolated to get back to Oz family here decided that they wouldnt say anything. It was rather grim the next day (Mum has a "no Resus" card so it was thought she wouldn't make it.) The Hospital called my bro about 3am the next time to check that was what was wanted.

About three days later, unaware, I received a phone call from local Council. Family here were not impressed with their interference. Family then told me she was in for tests. We were on our route home anyway. Just before we left for the final flight in Venice we found out it was a stroke.

QFWP - Buzzard will tell you I nearly pulled out of the Barossa Trip because that week Mum had a hemorrhage. But she made it through. Mum is now home with lots of support. Three times a week blood tests for the warfarin. As she lives alone we are also getting an ACAT assessment done for residential care. That process since July 1 is like climbing a mountain.

Mum signed up for a Doctors Alert button which costs her $25 a month. She wears it all the time at home. She felt unwell around 4am and got up and made herself a cup of tea and went back to bed. She didnt drink it but then felt really unwell and pressed the button. The Doctors line "talks" through this phone attachment, and they knew she couldn't speak so they stay talking to her and dispatched an ambulance. They know the numbers to press on a keypad near her door to obtain an emergency key. So the time between when she pressed the button and was found was less than 30 minutes. But the Hospital did not administer the "stroke" drug because she had not spoken to anyone (she lives alone for pete's sake!) so they couldn't administer it. The fact she got up and made a cup of tea less than an hour earlier seems to have escaped scrutiny. If it is administered after four hours the bro was told it could cause way too many problems.

Here is a strange thought.

Flying to BKK next week. Direct flight from SYD!

Glad to hear your mum is at home Pushka, I am sure the surroundings are far better.
Your mum is lucky to have a caring, supportive family.
I hope the time lords are kind to you all.
