Important question, did you get to keep the points?

In the 90's I got a round 50c back as change. And the bus driver actually gave back the right change. Makes me wonder who would give up a silver coin that is worth more then face value.
Back in the early 60s before Decimal currency was introduced a couple of us schoolkids went to various banks getting rolls of pennies and halfpennies seeing if we could get rarer dates.I got everything except the 1930 penny naturally and the 1923 halfpenny though a friend did score one of those.
I was interested in getting a 1946 penny-the third rarest penny that was actually minted in 1947.It is my birth year.I ended up with 10 of them.A really good investment with each one only costing me a penny!

My parents when they bought their second home in the mid 70's, they found 15 one pound notes and pre-decimal coins under the carpet. My parents ended up exchanging the money for decimal currency. Just wonder how much it would be worth now?

Occasionally when prepare the garden beds each year we find sometimes find half pennies and pennies. Most from the 30's. None I think too valuable, plus most have a bit of corrosion.

My Dad reckons an old neighbour said the our house and the one next door were owned by 2 Scottish sisters.

Because of some knob turning the ED into a parking lot yesterday - I ran out of time and returned the hire car with half of tank of fuel.

Hertz welcomed me with a smile and open arms and then quickly slugged me $130 + GST to fill her up.

There must be something about Brazil. I had my card compromised when I went there earlier this year, but Citi were right on it and blocked the transaction before any damage done.

I've never been to Brazil.

If you are trying to protect the data that is on the phone, there's is likely not a lot you can do except attempt a remote wipe. (This assumes you are prepared to throwaway the data on the phone and/or you have an accessible backup of it). Of course, that relies on a connection that can get to the device, after which when you give the instruction will proceed to wipe the phone of all data (it doesn't actually deactivate the device from usage, but there will be no more data on it from a factory start).

Normally if in Australia and especially if a SIM card was in it, you could call Optus to have the IMEI blocked. That stops the phone from accessing the mobile network, which mitigates your chance of having a large phone bill racked up. But the block doesn't necessarily work once outside of Australia, and it certainly doesn't stop accessing wireless networks.

Cancelling the email address can help, although you need to make sure that you have a backup of all your email in that account (and contacts, calendar, etc.), new mail is directed to a new account (usually by informing your key contacts) and the old email is completely deactivated (i.e. sending to it will bounce, not just be received, so a thief may still be able to read what is there). At a very minimum, change the password on the account as your lost phone may try to access it but should fail because the credentials have changed (however, that doesn't stop someone from reading the emails which are cached on the phone already).

Thanks Dr, I changed my hotmail and fb a/c passwords, so hope that has stopped incursions to my accounts. Haven't seen any strange activity in my emails or fb.

However it would be good to render the phone useless if possible. Just looked at cern, but it wouldn't let me login to their system using fb atm.

I had planned to exchange a couple of out of date 50 GBP notes I had, while in the UK. They were withdrawn from service on 30 April, but could be exchanged for fresh currency at the PO. Just asked the wife where they were. She apparently passed them off to a couple of retailers this morning. Saves me going to the PO. :D

Should be able to. Heston from Waitrose hidden orange Christmas pudding - Waitrose (I haven't seen it in store yet personally though). And, it is likely about 50% cheaper too.

Cool! Not that I necessarily love those ones, but will probably be relying on supermarket or what I anticipate will be overpriced puddings at Borough market. And will have to finish it all or be able to take it with us to our next port of call ... hmm, the logistics of Christmas meals overseas. :P

According to EF, general Int -> Dom connection at PER is 2 hours. For QFi to QFd (except for codeshares QF5000 series) the connection can be as low as 90 minutes.

On our connection next July through Sydney it's even less than 90 mins. All booked through QF on direct route so will be interesting.

Guess there was a security threat after all.

With a nephew and a good family friend in military service in Canberra and Sydney I hope this is done. But it won't be sadly.

MCT in Sydney is only 75 minutes in general for QFd to QFi, and 90 minutes for the reverse. EF files some noted exceptions for 90 minutes or 2 hours, but I know that for most of the services I've booked through Sydney you can get as low as 75 minutes. I don't know how conflicting the information is, but apparently for some T3 -> T1 QF/QF connections you can even have only 60 minutes, though I wouldn't be that brave.

It's not the most comfortable connection time for sure, but so there.

Now you will be able to drink your drink before you pay for it..... oh wait.. that happens now.

That slot/space on the RHS is for a trolley lock .... get ready to go shopping with coins.

The best device I've seen was when living in Christchurch my local Countdown (part of Woolworths) was just down the road from the Uni and so there were plenty of uni flats in the area and the students tended to wheel their shopping home. I even ended up with a trolly up a tree outside my flat once  Eventually the Countdown installed wheel locks on the trollys that would lock one wheel when it reached a certain radius from the store. So you could get to about the end of the carpark. No pesky coins needed and the supermarket doesn't have to go looking for their trollys.
