The "problem" with nuclear is emotional. It has nothing to do with facts, or actual scientific analysis.

Yes, it is emotional. The difficulty I have is when the anti side decide to join in the fact based scientific process by stating a whole heap of made up facts. Prime example being this concept of good radiation and bad radiation. I was hopeful that the royal commission was a chance to discuss this stuff in detail. Unfortunately, what was displayed last night was more of the same old emotional yelling over people.
Anyway, I'll shut up.

It's bringing out raving lunatics on talk back radio. They are barely articulate yet they KNOW nuclear management issues are wrong. Worse - they get to vote.

The sooner we get nuclear power the better ....

The tentative finding of the Royal Commission is nuclear power is not currently economic for South Australia. The nuclear power viability report is here: http://nuclearrc.sa.gov.au/app/uplo...ary-Nuclear-power-plant-viability-reports.pdf

the most annoying part is they going on about non-issues but ignore things that do need to be questioned.

Take Atlantic salmon - a tasty, healthy product and one of the few growth industries in Tasmania.

Latest target of the NIMBYs. Subject on ABC talkback this morning - more salmon farms (in offshore, marine pens). Some tree changer called to complain that in her area, additional pens will result in more boats going past in front of her place, disturbing their peace and quiet. [The sheer audacity of it all!] Well, in the future anyway - they hadn't built there yet.

Trouble for the NIMBYs is that the salmon mob has more 'green' accreditation ticks than your average conservation protest :)

The sooner we get nuclear power the better ....

My Texan son in law and I were discussing the merits of solar power. Even for an age pensioner, I have installed enough SP to nearly go off grid. Some may think that I should be sitting on the front verandah in a rocking chair with a crocheted rug over my knees, doing it tough, but there you go. He said they would not consider solar power because electricity is so cheap in the LOTFAP. Most of it nuclear fired.

Speaking of generation of power - you guys heard those fabulous new adds on radio describing coal as a beautiful black rock!

That beautiful black rock is not radioactive.

The Fukushima Daiichi incident and the subsequent political maneuvering in Japan has been great for coal producers.

Black Coal is not only beautiful, its positively unctuous and best of all, certified organic[SUP]TM ..[/SUP]Of course you Victorians run off that awful brown stuff, but I guess it keeps the Prius drivers happy.

Brown / black - wouldn't know - try telling the people in Morwell that coal is a beautiful little brown / black rock after the fires there.

Given the shares I hold in coal mining companies I wish it were loved to death - but am not holding my breath.

Yes, the beautiful black rock is not radioactive, aside from the uranium and thorium. ;)

On another topic, what have the romans ever done for us?

That post certainly requires a two part response:

One year older - bday? Oh break out the champagne - NO WAIT - that's a waste of grapes!!!

one year wise - debateable!!!
Cruiser, Cruiser, Cruiser. That champagne has gone to your head.

My statement reads

One year older does not mean one year wiser.

<> is quite common for not equal!

Heard the other day that Warnie's former PA won a car in one of the raffles that his Foundation ran - gee I wonder why they are investigating said Foundation?
