I don't think I told my mother or the South African lot until after Mr FM and I were married. Mr FM did phone and tell his Mum and Dad in Brisbane and they invited themselves and his two sisters. Apart from that my best friend gave me away, his partner was a bridesmaid (roped in the night before after the priest said he wouldn't marry us if I didn't have a bridesmaid. The priest really didn't like me and told Mr FM not to marry me). Then Mr FM's best friend was the photographer. We had two invited guests - the photographer's partner and I had a friend from work.We didn't have an engagement party though I think maybe some of hubby's friends did. When we got engaged my mother had not long been in hospital for an ileostomy (and for those who have read my posts, she is coming up to 95 in August). Our wedding was a country affair with mostly relatives and I think a couple of tables of friends. Our family was big on inviting the relos, all siblings, the aunts and uncles, at least 2 cousins from each family. We had about 150 at the wedding and of those I think about 120 were my side.
I remember my parents send separate invitations to hubby's father and partner and also his brother and partner as they were living together but not married :shock:
I would have been happy to elope but my mother was so excited as I was the first girl to marry.

we are starting to look at this as well- missed out when all the deals were around a few years ago. Just too busy, so it went in the too hard basket. A friend who seems to be quite across all this sort of thing has promised to give us the names of who he thinks are the people to talk to in Canberra, so when I get them, I will let you know. One thing he has suggested is putting in a small battery, not because it is really all that usable yet, but just so we can be confident that the system is battery ready for when it is worth doing.
