Baah, Baah, Baah.........

I'm sure there are some Kiwi's lurking in the background so that might bring them out :!:

Good to see you are posting on this thread, I would guess day 1 has gone by without incident. :)

And why is there 2 :o surprised smiles on the list.

It has been that way on the board even in the old software. Couldn't quite understand it myself.

More to the point how :o on FT gives an "embarrassed" smiley compared to here which gives you a :o.

The  is supposed to be just that, "Eek!" To quote thewinchester, how in the love of small furry animals does this face :o look like someone that's gone "Eek!"

I just spent $2,000 to go where I wanted to go in the USA, but I should end up with 570SCs which will qualify me for Qantas Platinum on the 20-June-2010.

Now after that expense I will not be able to go anywhere for 3 months in order to pay off the credit card.

What an addiction. :oops::shock:

I purchased LAX-EWR for AUD890 - will earn 210 AirNZ SP's and Airbucks - not the best value but I am time poor.

I need to purchase NYC to LAX to earn at least another 60 AirNZ SP's to ensure I requal. GE for 2011.

(Flying back to MEL on a LAX-MEL-xSYD-LAX fare on QF I purchased 6 weeks ago for ~AUD1150).

I possibly could have been comp'd BMI Gold the other day if I was interested (They were status matching passengers due to the BA strike). But then I realised a) My travel on *A this year [and next] will probably be limited, and b) That I don't have the inclination to keep *two* top tier status levels so didn't go for the comp!

I still have 9,000 BMI miles if you want to use them on a flight somewhere.

9000 points (+taxes) is

Zone1-Zone1 (Z1: UK, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Republic of Ireland, Switzerland).

6000 points + £70 + taxes is:

Zone1-Zone2 (Z2: Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Moldavia, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain (including Balearics), Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, Yugoslavia)

4500 points + £40 +taxes is:

Zone1-Zone1

All in economy, with one-way journeys available @ 50% off.

So they definitely do have a good value.

I haven't got any plans for Z1-Z1 flights in the near future, but probably have a Z1-Z2 flight soon. I'm hoping BA are about to launch a massive sale which would make the cost closer to £130, which would be about the same value as the BMI points+cash+taxes ex-LHR.

I'm sure we could work out some kind of arrangement ;) I'll let you know if I do start planning anything where they could come in handy. (My total is only 5000 miles on BMI, so my points are fairly useless at the moment).

Ok Sam just so you dont feel ignored:p
I will still read this thread.my post count isn't that important.

But you’ll be found quite often in the QP in the afternoons, paying off your WP membership, just not going anywhere? ;)

Nothing to be worked out, miles are gratis :)

I. got. quoted!

I'd like to thank the academy for this wonderful honor. I'd like to give a big shout out to all the boys back home for helping me get to where I am today, and I'd especially like to thank Jesus...

Seriously, some of those award acceptance speeches give me the coughs, specially when they start going all bible belt christian holy roller style and giving shout-outs to their respective deity. Would someone please give them a nice warm cup of shut the hell up.

Here ends rant, just relieving some end of day stress on the odd chance it will give someone a chuckle.

Cruel indulgence, isn't it?

As with most things, the first time hurts the deepest - 1400 SCs is not trivial. I'll see you at the top :)

I do like the routing you've chosen - it'll be a lot of fun flying it!

I'm definitely trying for (b), which isn't so bad since one alliance is well and truly taken care of now. I'm trying to see if my travel (non-MR based, I'm going to a Do) will allow me to edge towards requalifying for the other alliance.

You have watch out for the short haul redemptions. Taxes can be surreptitiously high, especially if you decide to book ex-LHR. OK we all knew that was coming, but in some cases the taxes when added to your cash+miles award comes to a stupid price. My LH ticket last year (LHR-MUC r/t) was bought in cash from LH website, total AUD 184 after conversions. Only AUD 20 was in the base price; balance was taxes. If I had to choose between all cash and cash+miles, I know which one I'd be picking. I guess you might get a fair price if you were trying to book an award where there were no low bucket cash fares left (so the base price increases considerably, however it would have to be a lot, i.e. greater than the cash component of an award).

This is why longhaul redemptions are much better value (but admittedly you can't do much longhaul with a mere 9,000 miles. I can barely do anything with my just-under 20,000 miles.) Also, I'm yet to call the BMI ICC, and although working with Harvey Norman gave me valuable skills in talking to such people, I'm not looking forward to it.

I shouldn't speak so soon.

Just found another day trip I am looking at for Saturday 8 May 2010.

BNE-ROK on Jetstar. $39 8:30-9:50am
ROK-BNE on Tiger $29 11:10am-12:20pm
BNE-ROK on Qantaslink $59 6:40pm-6:05pm
ROK-BNE on Virgin Blue $29 8:05pm-9:10pm

Prices and times rounded.

You will notice each one is planned so that I can hang out in the Qantas lounge in Brisbane.

Should I do it or am I completely out of my mind.

What an addiction. :oops::shock:

While I can understand people flying around to get status, I am still trying to get my head around flying around so that I can spend time in lounges :p

I was actually after the E190, not so much the lounge that was just a side benefit.

Hee hee hee the phone call consisted of me drunkenly yelling that I had gotten in with 5 minutes to spare on curfew and that I had been asked for ID twice.

Why was I drinking bourbon last night? I started with beer.
I'm sure that Flashware enjoyed the telephone conversation regardless of what was actually said, he just wanted to hear your voice.
