Probably not much more than 4 quid.

and once the package has to leave the bounds of Oz, the price skyrockets.

I just paid less than A$15 to have a 1.5kg book delivered from UK to Aus, complete with tracking reference, ordered on-line the afternoon of 31 December, arrived at my doorstep this morning. And ordered two other book from the UK that have free delivery world-wide. Total weight of those two will be about 1kg and total price for the two books (and free shipping) was A$40.46, which is at least 25% less than local on-line bookstores and the local stores wanted about A$20 delivery charge!

I not that long ago had a 12 kg cycle trainer delivered from store in Dublin to Adelaide, left via DHL on a Thursday, was DELIVERED on the Sunday. Cost? $0.00.

About the same time I used AusPost to send a birthday present airmail to Portugal, ~$70 for 200g with tracking and proof of delivery etc. Took 2 weeks to get to Lisbon.

Ouch. No fun at all!

Not fun at all. When you consider the time it took to get to the PO and back and waiting at the PO, so Startrack wasted an hour of my life because a courier was too lazy to open a gate and ring a door bell.

Our adaptable wildlife.Where we stayed in the Southern highlands there were 2 large walnut trees. The fruit has formed but a covering over the developing nut and shell which the coughatoos just love.Stopped by every morning and evening making quite a mess.
first they strip the covering and then eat the immature nut-

Nice Pictures.

There use to be an almond tree in my street. About ~20 years ago a flock of coughatoos (About 20) descended on the almond tree. The flock stripped all almonds and the vegetation. Shortly after the tree died.

Well, Royal Mail went public recently... so perhaps Australia Post will follow suit.
We definately don't want to follow the UK's Big Society lead.

It is possible it was delivered from an AU warehouse.

They are slow those Lisbonese :(

Those coughatoo's! They like to swoop on me when I go for walk when I'm back in Bowral. They are almost as bad as dominant alpha-Male magpies!

But very cute I do agree.

Another dilemma.

The fridge in my apartment is fairly new and kept most things relatively cold. Setting is in the middle between low and high.

Since I have returned from 2 weeks away it would appear the fridge is not working quite the same as before. Setting is the same. Things such as bottle of water and cans of soft drink are not icy cold as before and look to have some condensation on the outside.

Could the power be fluctuating on/off? Has the hot weather had any effect as the fridge is in direct contact with setting sun for most afternoon?

Any thoughts?

Yes the fridge wont operate as well in hotter weather. Generally the fridge will try to get to the setting you have used but if it is really hot it might struggle or it could even be the seals on the door.

We usually have our fridge on the on the middle setting but when the temperature soars in ADL the fridge setting needs to be turned up to a colder point.

Well, just got my new (temp) work car delivered. It's a massive SUV thing! I was hoping for something small.. oh well! ;)

I get access to the order system tomorrow so I can begin my search for my own choice, as I can choose whatever I like within my allocation (40 or so cars to choose from) but I'll be keeping this until a) said choice is made b) said choice is delivered from the manufacturer.

I was thinking only yesterday that we hadn't heard of the arrival of your new car.

I tried higher setting but no difference.

More than just the gate and door bell, its the loading time, the travel time, the unloading and scanning time..I guess it all adds up to them (no excuse, thats what they're paid for), but typically they will use contractors for delivery, who i guess aren't that interested in customer satisfaction.

As an aside, did you know the CEO of Aust Post is the highest paid public servant in Australia?

A fridge works on reducing the temperature of the contents from ambient, it's going to find it harder in a hot environment, having the sun on it in the afternoon with no aircon will result in poor performance.

Only 3 more months of hot weather.
