The totally off-topic thread

Whilst not as touching or critical as some of the stories here, just heard the news that my uncle (who works in a hospital) was pricked in the hand by a needle.

Apparently (read: so I've been told), a "junkie" had used the bathroom beforehand and left the used needle in the paper towel dispenser (probably shoved it in the top where it gets lodged). When my uncle used the bathroom and went to take a paper towel to dry his hands, the needle fell out and that's how it happened.

Straight to get some blood work done.... hoping for the best.

Sorry to hear that anat0l. I hope it all works out well.

I hate to say it, but with needle-stick injuries you have a 3 month period of anxiety waiting to take another test to be sure you haven't contracted any of the nasties :(

What is it with all the recent threads with names preceded by @ signs?

Twitter? Since when did it become acceptable to use that rubbish outside of Twitter? Qantas is Qantas not @Qantas.

Its becoming quite the norm. Given all threads are tweeted I am using the @ where possible in the headline as it is more likely to be noticed and responded to by the companies mentioned, recently we had AA respond to one particular thread as a result.

I have now tried a HDD Docking station and USB cables to attach my 500GB HDD to an old Win XP machine and each time I am advised the "Disk in Drive H is not formatted. Do you want to format now?"

The guy in the computer shop said the HDD is fine. What am I doing wrong? Was he lying? Is it Win XP? Or is my HDD fried?

I thought I backed up my desktop and my personal folder onto USB on Christmas Day but as it turns out I only have the Desktop.

Mrsdrron had her surgery last night.5 hours and now has 9 screws and 2 plates in her ankle.
So if you recognise us in a security line you are advised to take any other line.
Fortunately I got the all clear to drive and go without the walking stick.
So instead of being waited on I will have to do the waiting.
So often things don't go as planned.

Good news about the driving at least  Sounds like Mrsdrron needs all the good wishes we can send her way x

You'll need to be on the top of your game in the service/waiter department! Best wishes and speedy recovery to Mrsdrron.

OT, that dinner is still good - holding pattern until Mrsdrron is up & walking.

A message for Mrsdrron. It could be worse - they made me wait 3 weeks before cutting into the cough and applying the screws! Golf - bloody dangerous game...
