Absolutely. The food and beverage options alone at the EK lounge are vastly superior to QF's J lounge at SYD.

i wonder if that is partly a reflection of the pay-for-access ability with QF clubs? You might be 'paying' just a couple of dollars for entry if you are a frequent flyer with Qantas club membership.

Ok went to QF first about an hour ago and the food bar service looked terrible. I had one drink and decided to walk over to EK lounge. Wow! The food selection and the quality is fantastic!

Looking forward to experiencing their J in A380 in next 30mins. I read mixed reviews. But hey they have onboard wifi so will post my impressions live!!!! :)

I have 1 x F rdpt booked for QF93 dep MEL on Sept 15 which I am going to cancel at 9am tomorrow morning - so any AFFer that might be sitting / waiting for a seat on or about this date then one will be thrown back into pot tomorrow.

Booking cancelled so hopefully somebody was waiting in the wings to snare it - I only waited 25mins on phone to effect cancellation - is this normal?

25 mins hold time to get to an operator? Or 25 minutes once you got through? For non-status, 25 minutes to get connected is probably pretty quick.

25 mins to talk to a human after inputting requested info - only took 2 mins once I got through to a human.

You did well!

One of the biggest benefits of silver status is getting through quite quickly. It's very frustrating for non-status members particularly during IRROPS - you can be on hold for 30-40 minutes. If you're calling for overseas it's expensive.

Going by the economy seat map, QF 41/42 (SYD > CGK) is often now being operated by a refurbed A330-200? Can anyone confirm?

Ok.. I am confused...... earlier this evening I booked Award seats SYD/HKG, HKG/DXB on CX for 22 Sept 2016 (just making sure I have a flight, I am going to try for QF or EK F direct when released, and canx this booking)

Then I tried to book DXB/TEL for 27 Sept which is showing as available on the Qantas site (really wanted 26th but both 25 & 26 not avail) get 90% of the way thru the booking and get and error message - unable to confirm the fare for the flights you have selected.....
Tried 3 times, call QF (only had about a 20 minute wait :))

Although operator & supervisor can "see" this on the Qantas site, they are telling me that they can only book on their system from the 15th Sept.
Have to wait 11 days before it can be sold.

So..... how the H*ll did I book flight for the 22nd, on the Qantas site, when the Qantas rep says she can only book up to the 15th????

Suggestions please.....

So to answer my own question...... wait 12 hours..... log back in and you will be able to book (without any hic-ups) the date & time you wanted in the first place.

Apologies in advance if there's another thread to educate me on the finer points of QF award bookings...

I've been looking at J x 2 for SYD-BKK for Feb 2016 on QF online. Can't seem to find any seat. Are there just no seats, specific time they're released (if any) or is there another way I should be searching? (e.g. other search tool, call QF or something else?)

Thx

If no seats are showing they have already been taken! They are generally released one year out (as soon as the flight is available for sale). Many Qantas frequent flyers will stay awake into the early hours of the morning to snap up the seats as soon as they are available. Other airlines then have access to any seat seats left about a month later (roughly 11 months out).

More seats may be released during the year, but not something you can count on.

Options? Keep checking. Or look for partner awards on either Emirates or Cathay pacific. If using Cathay pacific, it help to look for SYD-HKG, and then HKG-BKK as a multi city search. Cathay often has much better availability, with more seats being released closer to departure time (in the 2+ weeks before departure).

If you are a Qantas platinum or above, you can call Qantas and ask them to release an award seat for you. They will try and help depending how full the flight is.

Always helpful MEL_Traveller. Thx.

Happy to keep searching and hope that something comes up. A friend recommended searching early sun mornings for seat release, any truth in this?

In regards to Emirates, there is hardly any seats (even in Y) that comes up in the QF search? Do I need to look elsewhere?
