The Unloved WP Thread

Well I'm feeling a bit unloved by QF today. :(

Over the weekend I reached the 2100 SC's I would have needed to get to PG. I shrugged my shoulders and said to myself "oh well you knew the score back in October".

When I logged on to my QF account I noticed the line stating the number of SC's required to get to PG or whatever it is called now, had disappeared.

I rang QF in the hope that someone at QF had thought to themselves:

"I know, if we give those WP chappies PG at 2100 SCs, where the change occurred during their membership year, we'll help foster loyalty and show our WPs that we do really care about them and their business." :)

After being asked if I would achieve the new PG target, ("July 1st" I said.) the nice man on the premium desk went away to investigate. He phoned back and told me that it would not be possible to do this because I hit the 2100 more than two weeks after the May 3rd deadline. If it had been a few days then it would have been OK.

Why was I keen to get this comped and not wait until July 1st? Well MrsH is flying overseas in June and it would have been handy for her.

Have I any right to expect QF to give me this comp? No right at all. The terms and conditions were/are very clear. Would I have given this comp if it was my business.....?

Absolutely yes. For two reasons:

1. An FF who will hit 2660 SC's by the end his membership year and with 1600SC's of travel already booked on the new year might just be worth a little bit of love.
2. A website that up until May 3rd was showing 2100 SC's required by July 31st and currently showing that the FF doesn't need any further credits to hit the status level.

(....but then I would say this wouldn't I?) :p

I have absolutely no right to be annoyed at QF, and I'm not. I am a little saddened. Maybe I'm naive, but I think this was a good opportunity, at very little cost, to foster some good will, particularly given the failure to update the summary page on the website to deal with these changes.

Am I going to race off and change all of my travel plans? Of course not. MrsH will almost certainly not fly QF in June though. She'll continue with EK. :-|

I agree with your take on things, TonyHancock. I really have to wonder what the basis was for upping the PG hurdle - surely partners unaccompanied by their WP other halves was not THAT much of a problem? As has been made so clear, WP's as a group (especially those with LTG in the bag) are going to look around. If you don't want that to happen, QF, do something about it. Reversing your PG decision would be a start.

I have added some comments QFCSA (couldnt be bothered to multiple quote)

Alot of people in here say that they prefer SC's over points anyway. - noting that there hasnt been a splurge of SCs on WPs (looking at the double SC promo I note very few WPs being targetted though there were some)

WP/SG complained about next gen check-in saying that they still want to speak to a 'person', yet they have and always had this benefit. - I never speak to an agent so a non-issue for me

Members wanted another tier above WP, and this will be happening. - I think this is a good thing.

Members wanted priority security, this is happening. - actually I often find at peak times in SYD that the priority queue is slower than the main queue.

Members wanted faster check-in, this is happening. - I have seen no change in check in times for int'l - in fact I had a long wait last time I flew QF int'l when checking in at the F counter.

Members wanted to earn points/SC's on Jetstar group flights, this is happening. - not an issue for me as I don't travel JQ (though I will have to in NZ)

Members wanted extra WP benefits (extra points/valet thing), they got it. - As serfty pointed out these have come in at a points level that means I can no longer get PG.

Members wanted more than 5000 loyalty points for the bonus, they got it. - I never heard anyone ask for more loyalty bonus points.

I am really surprised on the size of both threads and the negativity shown towards Qantas.
There may not be any negativity if Qantas did not keep diluting Platinum benefits or in the latest "enhancements" bring the lower statuses closer to Platinum.

But I would still like some confirmed systemwide upgrades, as a Platinum. :p
This would be fantastic but I don't think QF are prepared to go down this path.

Now that VA has made it's announcement perhaps QF can get on with their improvements. (Please note I did not use the "e" word.) It is a bit unfair to resurrect this thread on a day when VA is being nothing but positive but hey ho!

I'm a bit like a faithful dog with QF I keep coming back for more however I am treated. Having seen the VA changes I have to say I am close to status matching and canceling QF/BA flights. I'm pretty much resigned to not meeting the QF metal SC criteria for WP1 (Even though nothing has been announced.) and I have a feeling there will be fewer JASA's available to LHR.

I've been fed up with QF before and thought about switching, now I am impressed with VA and thinking about switching some of my travel. The latter state of mind is a little more potent.

QF could you please give us some sign that you care about your WP's?

If you are going to do it, do it NOW. VA have made very clear that it is a limited offer and places will eventually run out.

QF need to respond +vely, otherwise I won't be aiming for QF Plat after it expires in Oct 12; I will switch my flying to maintain DJ Gold / Plat and +/- QF Gold

Not sure QF is prepared to respond. Or am I not giving QF enough credit?

I'm not convinced that QF will feel the need to respond as yet.

They will (IMHO) sit and see how much damage the DJ offering really does and have a few responses ready IF needed. How many people in the real world (not AFF or FT) have much idea of what is happening?

Having said that I also believe that AFF is one of DJ's best sources of advertising though. If people here like the offerings they will tell their friends and business associates which is by far the best outcome for them.
