The Velocity Status Run Master thread

There is no limit on by what date the travel should happen. All that is needed is to book an eligible flight by 10/08 ... Have I got this right?

Travel needs to take place by 28 June 2022, according to the email I received.

Velocity has changed its fare categories and now has a new status credit earning table:

See: New Virgin Australia fare categories

The new Economy "Choice" fares seem to be only $10-20 more than Lite, and earn triple the status credits (as well as counting as eligible Velocity sectors), so paying slightly extra seems like a no-brainer here.

I also notice that on routes where Virgin is directly competing with Rex, Lite fares are not being sold but Virgin is matching Rex's prices with Choice fares. E.g. on routes like MEL-SYD, Choice fares are only $39 and earn 15 status credits.

Interesting to see that whilst Business now only has 1 category of ticket, the cheap fares ($299 BNE-SYD etc) still exist if you book far enough in advance. :)

Did you mean Choice fares are only $10-$20 more than Lite (not Flex)?

This is interesting. So my usual route booked BFOD would now earn 50, if booked as choice, as opposed to 45 with QF, on top of the fact that achieving gold is a lower target with VA vs QF.

Current sale for Syd - Ballina/Coffs has Flex for $175 each way with 25 SCs.
So that's 50 SCs return, and with the current bonus SC offer, potentially 100 SCs for a $350 trip.

Or Business for $199 one-way with 55SC (or 80 with the current offer). That's $398 for a return trip with 160 SCs.

Hi All,

Just booked Business return SYD to HBA stopping in MEL both ways for $633 on the 16th March - but plenty of other dates with similar prices.

I think that is 320 status points with the current offer.

Leaves me 7 status points short of renewing, with 15 days to renewal date, and also gives me the required 4 segments so with the 8 month extension due, this should put me at Gold until at least Dec 23 with just a small amount of shopping at Coles in April.

I have large trip planned in August next year so was keen to ensure at least gold for that trip.

Cheers

Right with 320SC for that trip.

I'm not sure you'll be good till Dec 23.
Isn't the current offer for those already extended till March 1st 23?

Ah ok, rethinking, your flight will be in new review year so you'll have qualified for upcoming year bringing your next review March 24.

Others will be more equipped to confirm.

I needed 1 sector (had the required SC easily already) and returned in J with 3 family members (family pooling) & the SC I earnt we're wasted. Should've worked it out smarter.
Oh well, using the WP upgrades already.

Right with 320SC for that trip....

My current review date is 1st April this year, have an email from Velocity saying that I will be extended until 30th Sept 22 which also meets my need as this flight (+ shopping) should push me over the required points.

I am a bit surprised that I have not seen the 1 year extension already like some, as I had a qualifying flight during the period, but will query that after my review date.

So - I reckon I have 3 bites at the cherry - firstly the email with the status extension - secondly the +8 months if they decide for some reason that I should not get the third option of an extension to March 23

The important thing is to be gold in Aug 23 irrespective of when status expires after that!

Cheers

Not wasted if you intend to fly more with them.
As WP’s I have already gifted a Platinum this year and my wife has gifted a gold. With about 6 weeks before my renewal date I probably will get enough SC’s to gift a secondary platinum (I believe that’s still allowed)

But the SC did not show up on my new year as this flight was the last sector I required to upgrade. Family trip, 3 of us. Spoke with VA, but I knew the story already. The family trip for me got me the last sector I required, but the SC have had no relevance, they don't carry over to my new year as they were in the same flight. In hindsight I could've/should've taken a cheap return flight for the sector then the family J SC's would've counted under my new year. Def intend to keep flying VA.

Little hard to explain in message here, but apologies for being off topic.

That's some decent flying for you to gift a Plat & now another. Nice one
