I'm still trying to work out the best way to get Max SC while trying to be cost effective.

Doing SYD>OOL>MEL>SYD for $200 return (Is it)? is better than CNS > SYD/MEL/BNE > PER for 70SC and $412?

$202.55 per person....syd- ool- mel- syd
use the promo code as well.
April 22 onward I think...

so all in $405 for 70 sc @ $5.79 each.....not bad in this VA climate of rejigged fares.

plus the 100% extra miles for me as a plat doesnt hurt'..also a chance to try out virgin valet parking ...going to use all my perks that day :)

Ex Mel looks worse by comparison

I'm going to need 40 Sc in the next two months and Mel ool still seems like best bang for buck.

dont forget to use the promo code..every little thing helps

as for finding great SC runs..I am looking at lax-sju for next year (great cheap cruises RCCL out of san juan in jan /feb 2016..B2B)..found an awesome flight in DL first

LAX-SEA-ATL-SJU-ATL-SLC-LAX

420 SC, 8408 MILES, $1430 USD / $3.40 USD SC ($4.50 AUD APROX SC) hoping the flight gets cheaper as the months progress.

This will push me over the 1000 needed to regain plat before we fly home (I lose plat in oct 2015 so need the full 1000 rather than 800 to remain plat).....the poor hubby..he has no idea whats in store for him :)

Discount Y to DRW is 20 SC each way. They were in the happy hour fares too last week I'm pretty sure. That would be cheaper than J somewhere probably.
That's if you're okay with Y.

Edit: Flexi to OOL is comparable in cost and shorter :)

Hello all,
Planning a run in Feb as I have a few days after a conference there.
I've done the SJU run before and very much fun it was, but I have a quandary.
Do you knowledgeable folk think a 1 hour 15 minute layover in MSP is too short with checked luggage?
My alternative is trying to find somewhere in Las Vegas to store it - not easy.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
By the way the runs I've looked at so far are all around the $4.00 to $4.15 per SC (AUD). Think LAS-OAK and LAS-ORD with one stop each (doesn't seem to matter which) but am exploring other options.
Thanks,
Peter

Is your luggage through-checked all the way to SJU? if so I wouldn't worry about it. If you can position yourself on the east coast there are some good fares from cities like PHL,EWR,BWI,IAD. I just saw PHL-MSP-AUS for around $279 USD which is around $2.5AUD per SC

Best option I have found now is about $4.45 per SC, but the other half has put the kybosh on it as I'd need to spend 2K to get to Plat - sob.....
For interests sake, if anyone is doing seraches, from LAS I found that Delta to DFW in F offered the best $/SC, but this was for travel in mid Feb.
Good hunting,
Peter

Hello all!

Getting in nice and early here!

I am doing some travel projections and I am going to easily make the 800SC's per year from work travel, but in getting to that plat qual 1k might be a little hard this year.
If I could get the extra few SC's I could be a Plat :D

From what I hear Plat isn't all that it's cracked up to be so probably not up for spending silly $$$ on SC's

My current status:

Currently have 650SC's and achieved gold in Dec14
Home Base is BNE
Regularly travel to MEL, with semi regular to CNS, DRW & ADL (so I could status run out of any of these ports)
I have noting expiring until May, 20 SC's, and then 100 in June (I took that red 25K / 100 SC's offer, so If I can do plat before then I'll get good use of them!) and then 50-75 per month after that.
I expect I will need about extra 170ish before mid-June

Who has ideas on cheap J trips somewhere? And is it worth it?

Also, has anyone been able to request the status run google sheet? I have requested access a number of times and I got nothing

There are some little niceties that are hard to quantify in value but are still worth something like taking 3 guests into the lounge, a tiny bit extra luggage weight allowance (over gold) and a few extra FF points thrown at you for travel - I could live without any of that as Gold is generous enough for my needs, however, the stand-out value for me to try for Platinum is the 4 domestic J class upgrades offered each year. As a PER resident with family in the east I make 2-3-4 trips a year to MEL/SYD/BNE with my wife, Flexi upgrades to J cost 39,600 points for a return flight for us both which equates to $1188 to me - so thats the value of Plat in my case ... 1188$. One trip to the east and back with wife in tow = 4x flexi tickets which, reward seat availability allowing, will eat the 4 upgrade to J offering provided with VA Plat.

If I spend more then 1188$ _specifically to gain plat then I'm wasting my time and money (if done via status run then thats only AUD$2.38/SC almost impossible)... so I agree, no good spending silly $$$ on SC's

I think it is pretty out of date now. A lot of the routes have changed price/value over the last year or so, and I don't think it has been updated.

And I don't think anyone new is getting approved to view that spreedsheet as I have requested permission a few times and never got approved/ heard back.

:/

Okay well I will ask some of the people in the know that I know and see if I can get a GDS dump of some kind. It might not be the best but it could be a start - My excel skills will pretty it up. I just wont be responsible for it however, I will need another person to volunteer to upload it, approve requests and the like with their own google account. I can't be bothered doing that.

OOL and NTL are excellent places to utilise Flexi fares...so a BNE/NTL to position (or drive to OOL and leave you car)

then do Flexis to OOL/SYD/MEL and vv (for OOL) and NTL/MEL/BNE (for NTL). My 2c worth
