The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Finally gonna start family pooling - moving in with my fiancee this week and will have the same address etc. If I book now and don't have family pooling 'turned on' - will the points/SCs still come over to me? Flights are in late Oct/early Nov.

Ie does the family pooling count when the flight is taken or when the flight is booked?

A bit OT but...

The pooling function is effective immediately once you have activated it, however SC and points will only transfer after the flight has been taken...

If you have points though and can find availability, cheap flight one way and pints redemption the other way :)

Considering I usually allow $250 to fly per - Mel/syd/BNE it's a great price :)))

Well I did my SYD-SIN-HKG return run. The expected 200 SCs and 11012 points (+ more on the credit card), credited within 24-48 hours, for $964 and a mere 23-odd hours in the air. Pretty happy with that!

Hi! I did this flight in June and it was great, easy transfers in Singapore with 55 mins between flights! I spent a week in HK, but curious to know how long your stay was!

I arrived on a Friday in time for lunch (personal best 13 min from wheels down to exiting landside at HKG, I might add!), and departed Monday afternoon. Not much of a long weekend, but enough for eating a decent amount. ;) I do also have family over there, so makes even a short trip worthwhile.

For a status run, I have to agree it's pretty good... super easy transfers, with lounge access in every port! I actually picked a longer outbound connection and spent 6 hours in a room at the Ambassador Transit Hotel at Changi though – highly recommended, especially when you have Changi Dollars to spend, over than trying to do the redeye in economy.

Hi I currently have a holiday all booked through Virgin (including accommodation) from Perth to Denpasar. We just booked saver fares. I will be 120 status points short from re qualifying for platinum so I am looking at options to keep this. Looking at business class seats for my flight they are only about 300 each one way more than saver fares. I know it is not real business class on this flight but my calcs I would get 80 status points for each my wife and I which is the extra 120 (previously getting 40) I need.

My understanding if I use the UPGRADEME status points don't change. Does anyone know I can just cancel the one leg and then rebook or would that cause issues with entire booking? Also are my calcs right on the status points I would get?

thanks.

Your understanding is correct. If you use any upgrade option you will still only receive the status credits for the Y fare you booked.
If you have booked it as a Virgin Holiday package then I don't think you can simply cancel and rebook the flights.
I would call them and see what they can do.
They should be able to "upgrade" the flights on a full-fare basis from their end.

Hey all

been some time since i've posted.

had a quiet year in terms of travel as i've been seconded to a project at work.

Will be off project early 2016.

I'm 160 SC short of maintaining gold.

Any tips of best bang for buck status run?

When is your review date? Is it really worth the $$ to maintain gold? If you're not flying that much?

MEL-BNE-CNS will get you 120 for around $800-$900

I'm doing MEL-SIN-MNL tomorrow and cost me $1000 on SQ and will net 180SC. Anything on SQ into an asian country is probably best bet, the SIN-Wherever leg normally is only a few extra $ on top of MEL-SIN

Review date is mid feb.

Is it worth the $$ - keep asking myself this but as I mentioned, over last 6 months i've been seconded to a project where no travel is required, project will be finished in early 2016, if I go back to my old role then travel is required and gold is great

if i change roles and go to something new - no idea if travel is required but I guess I could always purchase lounge membership

There are status runs out there but you have to determine if it's worthwhile or not?

Lounge membership for Silver means no joining fee and once you hit Gold you can ask for a pro rata refund on the membership fee.

Another option could be to see if Air NZ are doing status matches, I matched my VA gold early this year and meant *A gold. Although was a complete was for me (poor planning) because I hit VA WP 6 weeks later.

I need 30 SC's to re-qualify for Plat before Dec 17. Being SYD based the best I can find is a day trip return SYD - OOL, one direction in Flexi and one in Saver netting me the exact credits I need for about $320 total.

This seems Ok to me although was hoping to pay less. Anyone know of a cheaper way to get 30 SCs from SYD?

Ah, you need to read more AFF threads! ;)

A quick dummy booking in Nov. gives the same route as you suggested but for $277.37

Hint, try this link.

Hi there!

Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas for a day trip return SC run out of Vegas?

Next month I will be in Vegas and only 200 SCs away from achieving platinum status. If I wait until I get home to Brisbane I could close this gap with a trip to Hong Kong before my SCs start dropping off but the flight is so long and I would prefer to do HK/China as a longer holiday, not a SC run. I suspect a day trip first class Delta could give me close to 200 SCs for a similar cost and much less time in the air.

I will be in Las Vegas for 4 days and could do a SC run on 11th or 12th Nov. I looked at options for a day trip to Minneapolis via Salt Lake City and other connecting cities but I can't wrap my head around all the city options vs time and cost. I don't really understand the geography or hubs over there.

Not sure if I will ever get this close to Plat again so I'm willing to give it a good go while I'm over there. Hoping for some inspiration!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Cheers

LAS LAX is 241 miles and LAX AUS is 12368 miles.
