The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Thanks SimonD and Serfty. All booked! I found one for $460US via DFW that should net 200SCs and get me back in time for dinner ;) Appreciate your help.

Looking for a status run to incorporate into a family holiday... I find 110SC for $538... Now to convince the family for the longest trip to VLI

Extremely late notice, I know, but some vaguely decent runs available next year as part of the 48 hour NZ special.

Flexi fares are included in the promotion, and with the right combo ex SYD, MEL or BNE you can get a Flexi return on a one stop for around $5.50-5.80/SC.

Nowhere near as lucrative as the old Premium Economy days (which snagged you a J seat on the domestic leg), but still handy for a long weekend across the ditch.

Hi there!

Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas for a day trip return SC run out of Vegas?

Cheers
MattJX

In Feb this year the best options I could find were to DFW via MSP or DTW. I can't remember the pricing but was worth it. Returned same day.

Peter

Hi everyone. New guy here. I should have found this forum earlier!

I have made many rookie mistakes booking work travel (20 sectors so far) and now need to do a SC run before Dec 15th to reach Gold. Don't know if work will send me out on travel again before then.

I'm based out of MEL,. I'm at 460 SC. What's the cheapest run I can do from MEL to obtain the missing 40? Thanks!

Can you detail some of the errors? Presume you claimed for all flights - you can attach Velocity number to past flights flown, at least for a while. Regardless, obtaining 40 should be pretty easy and some regional destinations can be as low as $70 per sector. To Adelaide if you have some lounge passes left, otherwise Launceston for $69. Just check the Status Credit calculator first but I'm pretty sure it is 10.

It was not VA errors. I was mine for lack of knowledge:

- I just flew a Flexi return flight MEL-AKL, direct. I should of gone through SYD. I was not aware that each segment gave points until I came here.

- I could of done the above as well for a bunch flights before to brisbane.

- Booked flights as "Savers" instead of Flexi when I was clearly authorized to do so for work.

- Went to SYD 2 weekends ago for leisure, used my points instead of paying for it.

its just painful to write these rookie mistakes out.....

The others are perfectly reasonable. I wouldn't beat yourself up – we all have our rookie moments.

But this one's a killer! :p

Sure is, if all sectors were booked as saver fares that's a killer because if booked as flexi would be on double the amount of SC. Would have SG and be only 80SC off requal

SYD-PER is 20SC each way in Saver Economy, I'd assume MEL-PER would be the same so maybe so west for a weekend. happy hour on now.

Requal be darned.....80SCs off plat!
ughh.. i just got a bit sick... hopefully another rookie reads these earlier and avoids them.

So MEL-SYD seems a bit expensive at $395 Flexi each way. If i'm understanding the SC calculator chart, I need to find the cheapest saver flight that is between 1,501-3000 to get 20 per segment. So Perth as previously suggested?

I'm not seeing these $70 flights mentioned before Dec 15th. I'm assuming those are savers at 10SC and I would have to do 4 of them.

MEL-PER-MEL on saver would get you the required 40SC but that seems hard way to earn 40SC and also looking at random days in November you'd be looking at $450

As others have suggested look at using promo code and hoping over to LST twice. Or sign your other half up and famiy pool and travel to LST together

I take it you have SC expiring on 15th? VA SC dont reset to 0 on your anniversary date like QF, they expire on a rolling 12 month cycle. So 12 months after SC earnt they will expire

EDIT.....on a closer look, there are some $72 fares.....you just need to search!
Thanks for the link. I'll keep searching. The 2 examples you found I missed because I was searching before Dec 15th.

I'll keep digging and use the option of SO coming along or sending her off on a girl trip. One question with family pooling, can I inherit her current SC? It's a lousy 15 SC but i'll take that!

You would have needed to have pooling set up prior to Status Credit posting. Yep, you are going to have to cop that one as another rookie-error I'm afraid. Don't worry about it, we've all made plenty of mistakes.

Ah, sorry...I missed that part of your post. There are the $90 ones before then though! Good idea with family pooling.....though I'm trying to work out SO......some other? seductive other? seductive and outstanding?......but yes, family pooling can ingratiate oneself whilst earning said SCs (I look at that as a win-win situation)!......but alas, you must pool before she earns the SCs. :(
