The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Hi folks. Any suggestions on a status run (or two!) leaving Sydney, between now and Feb 11? I need 70 points to retain Gold.

Having done many searches, I can't find anything that equates to a better deal than about $10 per status credit.

Cheers!

It all depends on how much you value Gold and how much you're likely to travel in the next year.

SYD-MEL-HBA-MEL-SYD with current promo code gets it down to about $9.60 per SC

With limited information it's hard to know ie budget, flexibility with travel dates etc. With school holidays ending might be poor timing. Maybe buy saver fares and take your parnter and family pool? This might bring it down

Thanks David. I value it enough to be keen on retaining it, will be doing a fair bit of travel this year.

Family pooling is not an option, however I'm very flexible with dates - although the February 11 deadline is fast approaching.

Just wondering whether I've missed any routes that deliver the best bang for buck. Appreciate your help.

I just looked at this and gets it down to $9.22 per SC. It will just be a case of playing around with routes and finding combination of prices that is best for you

3rd Feb SYD-MEL $105 saver fare earning 10SC
3rd Feb MEL-BNE-CNS $390 flexi fare earning 60SC
4th Feb CNS-SYD $151 saver fare earning 15SC

Total of $646

Lounge membership for Silver members is only $300. You just need to work out is gold is worth $646, I personally would value it enough to take a status run. Now if it was to retain Platinum then not so much

Hi, need a little help not screwing up again trying to achieve Gold status. I'm 110SC from gold (after not making a run for 40sc back in dec).

I need to book a flight for this coming Monday for work, MEL-AKL. A flexi return will get me 80sc. If I go through SYD or BNE, do I get SC for those segments instead of direct?

Yes you will. SCs for Mel-Syd (or BNE) as well as the SCs for SYD (or BNE) to AKL.

Don't forget OOL in your searches as OOL is often cheaper than BNE with the same SCs.

I only need a trivial 10 SC to maintain Gold.... I'm thinking a sale fare to ADL or BNE - is that likely to be the best bet for a one day out-and-back? Suggestions please for what's the lounge like at ADL, what route has the best metal - am thinking of hitting the lounge, having a few drinks and catching up with a few movies in peace without the SO ;-)
Thanks in advance

I haven't been to the ADL lounge but hear it is a bit of a cupboard. MEL/SYD/BNE would be better options.

From where? Min earn is 10 so you may as well look for the best price and if you can book it shortly and fly in 3 weeks or so, you could use the current notified discount code. If you have some spare points, you could keep the price lower by booking a one way paid fare and return via points.

From where would help? I know SYD-MEL can be had for around $125 each way and would be easy enough to do in one day considering planes leave every hour. Not sure what SYD-CFS would be but that would be easy enough to do in 1 day.

As for best metal you would need to BNE/SYD/MEL-Per for a 332, but I quite like the e-jets and SYD-MEL is only 1 hour. I think the new lounge in PER is considered the better one? I've not seen it but I would rate them all the same. BNE, SYD and MEL are all a decent size. MEL would require you to clear security again but that's easy enough to do

My wife and I need a paltry one segment to qualify for silver. Flying from BNE. It doesn't seem to long ago when flights to Hamilton island could be had for $39-49. I got a bit of a shock to see they are now >$150
Cheapest from BNE seems to be Mackay, but not as exciting

$39-$49 hasn't been around for some time now. By when do you need the sector? If you have some leeway and don't mind a trip down to OOL, you could do SYD for $79.

Hi i'm new to this forum and looking at trying to achieve gold status this year. So far I've registered to family pool my points with my girlfriend and we're looking at flying to Vietnam. What's the best way to maximise my SC? Thanks

Hi nightelves

Just checking - what status are you on with Virgin now, and how are you planning to fly to Vietnam (Y or J, which airline is your preference) ?
