That is awesome! So if I family pool I potentially get 360SC? Yes I'm flying from Melbourne

Yes family pooling you will get 360SC if you purchase a flexi fare. If you are just starting out then you will need to have 4 sectors as well, sectors are earnt on VA marketed and operated flights only, basically you will need to have a VA code flight. Also sectors are actual bum on seat, these do not pool

So does sector mean MEL - SYD and SYD - MEL count as one sector?
Shame also read that the sector can't be purchase in whole or part using points.

Wait I can only see 5 sectors in that? How is it that it counts as 6 sectors? I'm starting to get how these things work now. Another thing when you're booking these flights are you using the multi-city function to book that connection that you listed or how are you seeing those additional transits?

MEL-BNE is 1 sector and so on
So just count the number of '-' in between

Oh ok sounds good. So if I'm flying to Vietnam I would want a flight with multi transit to and from Vietnam. After I qualify for the sector can I then use a different Airline such as Singapore to accrue points and SC in Virgin? Hope that makes sense.

To vietnam your only option for VA SC is flying VA codeshare on SQ or flying SQ.

You will need to fly MEL-SIN-VIETNAM-SIN-MEL, so if you fly with VA codeshare you will get the 4 required sectors in 1 trip and if you fly to Hanoi you will get 90SC one way, fly to Ho Chi Minh and it's 80SC one way.

I'm only flying that routing as I need 6 sectors to retain Platinum and I want to fly on A380 SIN-SYD

MEL-PER = 40
PER-SIN = 40
SIN-Hanoi = 30
SIN - Ho Chi Minh = 20
SIN-SYD = 60
SYD-MEL = 20

So assuming you are booking flexi tickets this will net you 190 to Hanoi or 180 to Ho Chi Minh

You only need 4 sectors & 500 SC to reach gold. Fying MEL-SIN-Vietnam-SIN-MEL get you the 4 required sectors and the same amount of SC, seems pointless to fly those extra connections for no SC value, I would hazard a guess it would be a lot more expensive as well

I just tried the link you mentioned it only shows me how many miles is accrued. Weren't able to find how many status credit you get per section

You can find all you need to know about earning status etc by clicking on the status menu at the top of the page. This will also show you the fare types that fall into Saver, Flexi etc

I'm all for connecting flights when there is extra SC attached, but with no SC benefit I wouldn't fly additional connections, I'd rather save my money for my new trips (and yes I realise this is a little un-AFF)

Found a much better option that would net me 220SC. MEL-BNE-SIN-Vietnam-SIN-BNE-MEL. Works out cheaper than MEL-SIN as well. This is fun. Just saw the flexi option and it only allows a max of 32kg. Is there the option to purchase additional luggage?
