The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Hi everyone,
I am debating with myself regarding a mileage run. I need approx 180 sc by Late Feb and I am debating to either complete two runs of 90+sc or one run of 180 sc. I am departing SYD
Two runs SYD-MEL-SYD-OOL-SYD One in early Dec and 2nd in early Feb
One run SYD-BNE-NAN-BNE-SYD Run in mid Feb

What is the concensus of the community regarding SC, one SC run or two?

What is the price difference? I would probably lean one as late as possible assuming you can cancel without penalty. That way if you have a necessary trip or three in the mean time, you can take the money back.

Although with VA the SC are never really wasted at the start of a membership year.

The Prices are similar. I may need to do the two runs because I am always in the doghouse according to my partner.

Question for the experts....

Starting in Sydney and needing 4 sectors by late Feb 18 what would be the best (aka cheapest) rtn status run if it is a day trip? If you stay a couple of nights?

Happy to visit anywhere for the 4 sector haul. Curiously enough as quite a number of posts in this thread all seem to have the late Feb date for renewal.

I'd either go Sydney-Ballina-Byron or Sydney-OOL (twice), or wait till Thursday and see what gifts Happy Hour throws up.

SYD-BNE-CNS and return would make for a nice short break. Also possible to do in a day if you really want. Prices are similar to direct SYD-CNS as well.

As a weekend side-project to help me learn a web framework, I started developing a status credit calculator/explorer tool. It has some issues, and shouldn't be relied upon at all - but thought it might still be useful to people browsing this thread. I'll probably continue to update/improve in my spare time, but can't make any promises.

Flyer Tools - experimental status credit calculator

Don't use it for partner flights, it will definitely be wrong - haven't even started on those earn tables yet. Also I'm aware of some combinations/destinations missing - will look in to that next. Any feedback appreciated :)

Hi Sludge 321, any help is greatly appreciated! Many thanks. Funny thing is, I was only just today, thinking of a spreadsheet tool that every FFer should have .... trouble is. I forgot what it was.

Perhaps Gingsing for memory (or less time in the club lounge)?

Hi guys. Looks like I might be 65-70 status credits short by June. Done the required sectors. I was looking at Syd>Hobart via Melbourne. That's 30 status credits one way in Elevate correct? Or 50 in Freedom? Looking at $444 return via MEL in Elevate (extra $100 Freedom one way). Any better status run suggestions?

FlyBuy SC earn? We've earned 105 SCs in 7mths by shopping at Coles.
You must have more than one account! Even so, that's over $10,000 on groceries :o I'm single... I can't eat that much! I did earn 8 in December with booze and double points.

Freedom fares can have surprisingly good earn for not much more than elevate or even getaway.

Ex Sydney is a little tough for value; what you indicated. Or have a look at @kevrosmith 's CNS idea a little upthread.

One thing I've discovered recently is Delta's "Comfort +" credits the same as VA's Premium Economy product on SYD-LAX. Was able to get SYD-LAX return to price up at $1606 for July departure, August return. When you consider that's 240SC, that's a VERY nice earner.

I earned 20 - 2x 10 can't rely on that though and I have already requalified WP anyway.

Still, I look at 80 to 100 per year from that source.

Looking for the cheapest way to earn 17 SC next Saturday 27th Jan ex Melb. I’m currently on 883 but about to earn the Velocity AMEX 100 SC bonus so will be so close to WP with 28th Jan as the last chance before I lose a whole heap of SC.

Have been offered the recent double SC offer so am guessing i could just get the lowest fare return to somewhere closeby that would usually earn 10 but will double to 20 SC? Any insights where is cheapest place to fly ex Melbs?
