The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Any of those 110SC J flights out of MEL? I've tried a few routes and dates and can't find anything under ~$450

For anyone interested at options out of ADL. There's couple of haulers, 215 SCs on the same ticket

Hi all,

Long time reader first time [thread] poster....

My extended VA Status is set to expire end of February 2023. I've been platinum or gold consistently for the past 6-7 years but Covid has curtailed my business trips significantly (ironically just as I got promoted and qualified for business class flights internationally - thanks pandemic!).

So I am considering a status run on VA to try and reach at least 400 SC before March.

Have never attempted a status run before so was hoping for tips/tricks/ideas... I have a little time as you can see but given the state of the airline industry atm I'd be surprised if we see any DSC promotions anytime soon...

Ideas?

Apologies - I hunted around for a thread before posting but nothing came up in search... my bad!

How long out should I look at booking these? Tried a couple of months ahead Mel--CBR--OOL were over $1000.

A recent promo code I believe required a 21 day forward booking window and some other requirements - check up the thread as I think somebody posted the T&C's. The cheaper fares may be on flight with timing that doesn't suit...but keep changing dates to find the sweet spot.

I use google flights to narrow down my search - once you perform an initial search you can then select Virgin only and rapidly scan through the months looking for cheap flights...

The example above is the first flight in the list - CBR to ADL, and the price is return so is slightly more than the price they found but only marginally...

As QF WP mentioned, there's an advance period. Probably goes without saying but don't book a multi-city. Book a MEL-OOL route and select the flights that offer a connection - these routes optimize the SC earn rate.

Amazing advice everyone - super appreciated! I was looking at a multi-city like a n00b and firing dates into Virgin which felt very hit & miss... will try again with Google Flights!

Hi All,

I'm trying to get the 200 SC for the Platinum challenge. I have a flight booked from MEL-SYD one way in J - so that earns me 55 SC - if I'm not mistaken. I'm yet to book my return.

Based in MEL, I assume the best option for me is to do MEL-OOL direct, which gets me 160 SC and is probably the cheapest at around AUD$600.

Are there any other cheaper/better options? I'm also open to doing something creative on my return from Sydney in Nov, as I'm yet to book that return flight.

Thanks for the help all.

That's about as good as it gets. I'd book that.

If you're in CBR or ADL there's a better run (CBR-MEL-ADL in J) but once you take into account positioning flight costs, there's no real gain for someone based in MEL.

Also looking to do the Plat Challenge, however with Sydney as my home base.
If I'm interpreting the previous threads correctly, it looks like the best option is to fly in-and-out of either CBR or Melb into OOL/Adelaide, bookended by a Return flight to & from Sydney? Am I correct?

If you're in Sydney and need 200 status credits, I'd take a bus/train/flight to Canberra and then fly CBR-MEL-ADL-MEL-CBR in J.

220 status credits for around ~$600.

Thanks so much Matt, that looks way cheaper than the other options I’d been considering.
