The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Hi All,

I have been trying to find a cheap way to earn 127 SC before 27 Feb or 168 SC by 03 Mar to get to platinum but I am struggling.

I need 3 more segments. I am based in MEL.

I am happy to do it in economy or business. Preferably same day return or 1 night.

Thanks for any advice.
MEL to OOL on biz fare (80sc)
OOL to ADL on flex 35sc11am
ADL to MEL choice fare 15sc
130SC

Can't book on one pnr booking though.

MEL-OOL or MEL-BNE return in Business is 160 SC
MEL-OOL(or BNE)-CBR(or SYD)-MEL in Business is 190 SC.

Play around with maybe one segment in Economy depending on how many SCs you want.

Hey all - renewal time has caught me off guard this year as I was mostly flying in Europe and not earning status credits, so I'm in a bit of a tight spot to maintain Platinum.

Need 420 SC before 28-Feb (10 days). I have the 125 bonus SC offer if I fly 6 legs, so the flights themselves only need to earn 290. Not sure if there was a more cost effective way than just say flying MEL-OOL return 3 or 4 times. Would very much welcome any suggestions!

Ideas for a status run for SYD-BNE and back to maximise the SC bonus offer, please? This would be on the weekend of 22/3 - 24/3 (prefer Fri any time out, Sun pm/evening back, but can flex over night to Thu and Mon). Ideally, spending max 8 h en route and paying max $1,500 in total. Happy to book separate tickets for each trip (to BNE, back to SYD).

The best scenario is to net 350 SC together with the bonus but I have all of 2024 to collect them = can easily fall short this time around and complete the picture later on. It's more about maximising the value of the bonus while I'm on the move and have spare time for detours.

For SYD-BNE direct, I found choice fares for $308 (return), yielding 75 SC (with 45 SC bonus) for $4.11 each.
SYD-xBNE-xADL-xSYD-BNE (one way) nets 150 SC for $759 ($5.06 each). The return probably would then have fewer connections (if not even a direct one).

Would there be more cost effective circuitous routes?

A cheap SC haul would be the $91 (one way) fares SYD-BNK. Three return trips for $550 nets 215 SC with the bonus ($2.54 each) but I don't want to spend three empty days just for the fun of it.

You have probably nailed it, although maybe connect in SYD/CBR if it is not significantly more expensive for extra SC earn (110 v 80 each way).

I have a similar problem. I think the 125 bonus SC offer only credits on/after end of March, so not expecting I can rely on them for my end Feb renewal??

The date you've earned the SC is what counts. They may be credited later but are applied as per the date earned. If it's about retaining your status, there may be a little break in between your review date and crediting but the status will be fixed soon after the SC's have been processed.

Hi - new to all this and wondering if someone could give me some advice!
I am currently on 80 points accrued since January this year - 30 each way for choice flights Brisbane to Perth, and then 20 from a flex flight Brisbane to Sydney (according to Virgin's website this should net 25 points, I'm unsure why I got 20 - possibly related to booking through my work in a government agency?).

I will be travelling twice more (from Brisbane to Adelaide, and from Melbourne to Sydney, both one way flex, both through work) - this should net a total of 50 points but given I booked through work possibly 40? These, plus two other flights I have already done will be in the bonus credit period so I should get 85 bonus points - putting me on 205-215 points.

My girlfriend currently lives in Perth, will be moving to Sydney some time before September. I am hoping to do another trip there at some point before she moves. I am based in Brisbane.

I will also be travelling to Sydney at least once, possibly twice or more this year for work on flex - netting a similar amount of points as described above.

I am hoping to get gold status for some lounge access around an international trip in January next year. Should I be aiming for status runs? If so, what are the best status runs to get there from my position, and should I be waiting until another offer comes? If not, is there any way to make Brisbane to Sydney flights more efficient for points earning? Appreciate your assistance!

I believe you can contact them after end March regarding the SC offer that is issued then. If SC bonus offer applies to flights taken during your eligible earning period, then call centre staff can (re)apply the SCpoints manually back to that accrual time and reassess your eligibility (notionally by the due date). I am hoping for this outcome and spoke to Virgin Platinum call centre staff, who informed the above. Sounds clunky and manual, but doable.

Hi All,

Any decent status runs from Sydney. Would like to make gold but I need 250sc. I've met the required eligible sectors just need sc. My review date is June and I'm currently Silver.

Looking for a run from Sydney and return same day. Happy to leave first flight any weekday.

Thanks in advance :)

SYD-MEL-HBA and return in J is coming up at $1434 same day return for 220SC. Add in a discount code and you'll knock some off that fare, then it's just a pair of Choice fares at a time and destination if your choosing to get the 250.

There's also SYD-BNE-CNS for $1453 return in J that would earn you 270SC, getting it done in one go.

What is the cheapest/easiest way to get sectors out of Brisbane? I do a lot of international travel so have the SC's for platinum but am short on 4 sectors. Will drop 250SC's next month.

Nothing ain't cheap no more, but for four sectors in a day you could try this. You won't get much change out of $900 though.

BNE-HBA: 07:05 to 12:30
BNE-SYD VA 916, SYD-HBA VA1530

HBA-BNE: 15:35 to 18:50
HBA-MEL VA1327, MEL-BNE VA343

And you'll need at least three hours to explore Hobart Airport (Joke!).
Hope somebody comes up with something better for you!

This. Out of BNE it's generally going to be BNE-MEL-HBA that gets you most bang for buck, as the BNE-MEL leg is in Level 2 for SC's, whereas both BNE-SYD & SYD-HBA are both Level 1. BNE-SYD/MEL-ADL can also be reasonable as well.
